Default Curious...favorite genre'...and...

Just thinking out loud here - what's your favorite genre' and can you list 10 of them?

For me I think it's Horror.
Off the top of my head I'd say:

The original Carrie.
The Grudge.
Hellraiser.
The Prince of Darkness.
The Omen.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Hollowman
100 Feet
The Seventh Seal
Silent Hill

Fantasy:

The Lord of The Rings
The Hobbit
Labyrinth
The Princess Bride
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
Groundhog Day
Bram Stoker's Dracula
The Wizard of Oz
Legend
Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone

Some genre/films over-lap and could be considered fantas like Star Wars, MCU, POTC, etc. I tried to stick with those most commonly associated with fantasy first.

My favorite genre is Sci-Fi.

District 9
Children of Men
Jurassic Park
Inception
Alien
Avatar
2001: A Space Odyssey
Planet of the Apes
Terminator
12 Monkeys

This isn't a top 10, but it's 10 that I love nonetheless.

That's tough. It's between animation and crime/thriller, but I'll go with the latter:

Se7en
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Prisoners
Heat
Gone Girl
Goodfellas
L.A. Confidential
Leon: The Professional (if that counts)
Mystic River
Nightcrawler
Sin City (if Leon doesn't count)

No particular order.

I like both comedies and horror movies. But since no one said Comedies. I'll choose that. This will include Comedies and Romantic Comedies. These are in no certain order.

1. Silver Linings Playbook (I'm counting it as a comedy. Plenty of funny moments)
2. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Step Brothers, Superbad, Pineapple Express, Anchorman, 40 year Old Virgin, Knocked up, Bridemaids and Trainwreck. (Basically anything that Judd Apatow has his name on it. Whether it be writing, directing or producing)
3. The Hangover Trilogy
4. There's Something About Mary
5. 21/22 Jump Street (I'm counting those as 1. )
6. TED
7. Dumb and Dumber
8. The American Pie Series 1-4 (I'm also counting those as one. I know. I'm cheating a lot. )
9. Take Me Home Tonight
10. Love Actually

Also a list of honorable mentions.

Begin Again
Grandma's Boy
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Adventure land
About A Boy
BASEketball
Kingpin
The Girl Next Door (2004)
Horrible Bosses
She's Out Of My League
Shaun Of the Dead
We're The Millers
Old School
I Love You, Man
Bridget Jones Diary
Hot Tub Time Machine
Austin Powers Trilogy
I know most of those are newer. But what I could think at the moment.

Generally speaking, my favorite is probably "action-adventure" stories. Most films based on comic books fall into this, along with detective shows and such. Some of my favorite examples include, but are in no way limited to...

Movies

Back to the Future
Superman: The Movie
Man of Steel
Batman Forever
Batman Begins
The Shadow
The Crow
The Phantom
The Rocketeer
Captain America: The First Avenger
Jumanji
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
The Mask (1994)
The Mask of Zorro

TV Shows

Castle
Person of Interest
Knight Rider (1982)
Smallville
Arrow
The Flash (1990 & 2014)
Agents of SHIELD
Agent Carter
Batman: The Animated Series
Star Trek: The Next Generation
