Default Tornado Red's Home Theater Thread

I'm a fairly new member. Just upgraded my display in the HT room around Christmas to a 60" Panny, moved my 42" to the livingroom as you'll see in the home theater gallery. My collection of blus is slightly more biased to concerts than movies, great live concerts were made for blu-ray I think. I guess we always want "more", but I'd say I'm quite content with things for now. Considering installing a crow bar next to my over stuffed chair, it's awfully hard to leave that room...thanks for viewing folks...

Thanks very much. The unit the Panny is on is quite deep, the PSB 100 not so much so there was room to put it on the unit just behind the tv.

Thanks Almadacr. I appreciate everyone who's taken the time to have a look. I've added a few new pics this evening, one of where the center channel was living, a few people asked about it, and a couple more screen shots I thought turned out well.

I've only been on here a couple months, but I've noticed 2 things. One, people are mostly very positive, making the forums a nice place to visit. And two, although we come from different backgrounds and have different knowledge and budget levels, the community here is VERY supportive of each other, offering to share their expertise and time to help one another. Nice.

Looking at your collection, and you are right about about concerts being made for BDs. Top three?

Mine are The Police: Certifiable, David Gilmour: Remember the Night, and Joe Bonamassa @ Royal Albert Hall. Jeff Beck @ Ronnie Scott's used to be there. I want to get Sting in Berlin.

Hello and welcome to the HT Galleries. I really like the entertainment furniture. It makes you man cave look like a library too. So you are sayng the Center Channel is behind the display? Could you do something like I did and push the display back and set it on a small riser so the CC can be in front of the display?

BTW, I got a good laugh of the pic where you are sitting on the throne. That was good planning on your part.

Thanks Al. The bathroom thing just sort of worked out that way. The main room is about 19' x 12' and my options were few as to where the equipment had to go. The unit the display is on is deep enough to push it back and move the center channel out front, but then the display gets partially hidden by the towers on each side that won't go back any further. Anyone sitting on my love seat or couch will have a hard time watching. I had most of the equipment and furniture before I built the room, and had to compromise on a few things.

Those are great picks, and you won't be sorry if you pick up Sting in Berlin. I love David Gilmour/Pink Floyd, and Remember That Night is such a great concert, but I find the blu-ray really lacking in picture and audio quality.

I guess my favourites are Jethro Tull in Montreux, Rush:Time Machine, and Lindsey Buckingham's Songs From The Small Machine. I like the audio only ones I have as well, Rush: Moving Pictures, Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon and Tom Petty's Mojo.

Ok then why not get or build something like this:

This will raise the TV slightly but you could still keep it flush with the side towers. This model from Amazon (OFC Express) holds up to 100 lbs.

I like your thinking Al but...this pic of the system was before I got the 60" display. You can see the unit around the 42", and the lift that contained the blu-ray and vcr at the time are now gone. This piece of furniture (6 pieces originally) was bought initially to house a Panasonic TAU 36" crt. The unit had doors that closed around the tv that I had to remove to squeeze in the 42". You can see from the new pics what I had to do to keep what I could and accomodate the 60". The reason I sent this pic is to show the lift that contained the blu-ray, etc. I found even with the 42" on it that the display was too high for my liking, and I knew the 60" would be even higher. I'm trying to keep my eyes as close to screen center as I can, so I'd prefer not to go any higher. A new stand would be in order, but I've always liked the look of this one (even gutted, such as it is), and I love the storage I have with it. Plus I blew my entertainment budget on the 60" screen )

I see now what you mean, and I know what it means to spend your budget ( I spent too much on my new display). The last suggestion would be to build a bridge above the display between the towers then angle the center down towards the listening position. You still have a great looking room and system and I'll am going to rate it here after this post. BTW thanks for rating my system. BTW 2 we like first names around here so what do we call you?
