Default New Onkyo HT-R557... need help for my friend.

I'm hoping that someone that owns a recent Onkyo receiver can help me out here.

On the weekend, my friend purchased a new Onkyo HT-R577 series home theater set. It's part of the new HT-SP900 series of "Home Theater in a Box" systems. I set it up for him on the weekend, and kind of ran him through the basic functions of the system (basically what I could glean from playing around with it for 20 minutes), including how to calibrate his speakers (probably a mistake, since he's not really into reading instruction manuals), and how to switch from the various listening modes.

Today, however, my buddy was playing around with his receiver and he no longer gets sound from his speakers. I know it's not the physical set-up (I'm pretty confident in my knowledge of how to set up HT systems, not to mention that it was working when I left his place, right up to the point where he started pushing buttons on his remote), and from what he told me on the phone, he doesn't get sound from DVD or the radio Tuner. So my question is, if someone here is familiar with Onkyo systems and can tell me if there is a speaker cut-off button on the unit?

I know that my HT receiver has it, but I am unfamiliar with the Onkyo systems, and tried getting him to look for such a feature. I would need to get over to his place to help him, but he's not near me or easy to get to on short notice, so I am hoping someone in this community of HT enthusiast can tell me what to tell him with respect to his specific Home Theater.
