Default Phase IV

Enjoyed this film, and have heard rumors about a so called 'longer cut'. Would love to see it come out on BD with maybe some extras on how they did all the ant scenes.

Directed by: Saul Bass

The long lost original ending to Phase IV was recently discovered and screened last night at The Cinefamily in Los Angeles. The feedback from those attending has been extremely positive. Hopefully this'll make it to Blu-ray someday with the original ending intact.

Legend Films released this Paramount film on DVD back in the day and they are now putting out some of their catalogue on Blu-ray. It might be worth letting them know there's interest in seeing this film on Blu.

Olive has been releasing Paramount stuff in gallons recently. Hopefully they release this movie. I love the whole semi-genre of 70s dystopian movies like this movie, Soylent Green, Westworld, Demon Seed and the king of them all - A Clockwork Orange.

I saw this film back in 1974 at the cinema in its edited form. Rather strange and hauntingly memorable film despite the crappy, irrelevant advertising poster. IMO this film not only needs a BD release with some decent extras, it needs the Criterion treatment.

There is now an image acknowledging (at least I hope that's what it means) the future release of Phase IV but without any company credits or release date. At least it is a start.

This film has what I've been told is a 2K restoration making the rounds in the UK. Maybe other places as well, but I haven't heard. Also the original ending has been intact though I am uncertain if it is of the same PQ as the rest of the film. With this transfer, the film's presence on major streaming sites like Netflix, a deluxe edition of the score being released on vinyl in the spring, and rumors of a newly commissioned poster artwork, perhaps a Phase IV BD is closer than we think.

This one's def in my top ten discs I would want to see released. Sure I'd love to see it get the Criterion treatment, but I kind of doubt its going to happen. I just want that lost ending - one of the coolest, trippiest montages put on film. The film is gorgeous and has so much interesting cinematography. Really hope someone puts this out.

I've just had a response from Waxwork Records, the company who released the new, LP of the Phase IV score.

Waxwork Records wrote:
"Totally agree with you on the blu-ray release. How Criterion hasn’t jumped on this one is a mystery. However, the studio did inform us that a company has recently acquired the film rights and plans to release a blu-ray with the lost ending. Fingers crossed."

Boom. Smarter folks than me, please share your educated speculation.
