Default Toshiba to quit HD-DVD?

I was just reading the blog of Mr. Bill Hunt and he talked about the HD-DVD group not showing up for Hi-Def 2.0. Their was some awards for HD-DVD won that day but nobody from the HD-DVD camp was there including Universal. Here is an excerpt from the blog:

Quote:
Well... we're back from High-Def 2.0, which was actually quite a lot of fun. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the Home Media-sponsored conference (and something that was a definite topic of discussion among the attendees over the course of the day) is that the HD-DVD format was a total no-show. Not a single representative of the format was in attendance, despite the fact that they were invited and genuine efforts were made to keep the conference panels and events balanced. What's more, a number of HD-DVD titles won honors at the High-Def Awards last evening (click here for the details), and only Warner and Paramount sent representatives to accept. Universal was represented by no one.
I hope Toshiba has woke up and is finally throwing in the towel. Heres hoping that they finally give up and let us enjoy all the HD movies on Blu-Ray.

Once again, people are reading too much into this.
They probably did not think it was worth their time or effort to attend.
They probably will eventually give up but I doubt this is a sign of it. It does show what they think of the war and the rival format and the consumers, but not showing up to make announcement, advertise the product, or accept the awards.

they aren't giving up yet, they probably just didn't want to go to a very embarrasing even for themselves. i mean, they would have to sit there and watch blu-ray after blu-ray get handed awards only for them to get a few pity awards. plus, we all know toshiba doesn't take their losses like men.

I have a theory, they would have faced potentially tricky questions about contracts ending, alternatively they are so confident they don't feel the need to turn upto these sort of things.

I agree with Bill Hunt there, he by himself would've grilled the crap out of Paramount and Toshiba.

I don't understand why they can't just lie like Microsoft does...

it's not that hard to spew disinformation almost daily...MS is king of that planet...

There is a theory that they boycotted the event because HMM publishes those comparative percentages each week.

Facts are, after all, very inconvenient when you're waging a FUD and misinformation campaign.

So because you say people are reading too much into that makes it so? No thanks. Does this mean HD DVD is done? Nope. Does this mean HD DVD is so cool they dont need events like this... well if you believe that.... just keep on believing it.

You got the exact opposite of my post.
I MEANT that people are reading what is not there. They are not going to stop just cause they didn't show up.
I think that they will eventually, but that it will have nothing to do with this.
I also tried to point out that they chose not to attend probably to avoid press, cause they think it is not worth showing up, etc. It also shows how dedicated to their fans they are since they don't even have the decency to show up to an HD event like this.

I was saying that when they give up HD DVD, it will NOT be because they did not show up to this event.

Actually, I think it would take $55 from each of the Blu owners (2.7 mil at last count) to help Tosh recover their $150 million bribe to Para*****, no? So, $3 may not cut it.

That space was probably bought back in August or Sept.
