Default DVD Forum doesn't know when to quit

Among the "gems":

Approval of the "HD DVD CHINA" logo.
Now there is something that ought to send shivers down everyone's spine.

Specification 2.0 for TL51.
They're really gonna try to do this aren't they? Will the format war be over before they get a finished spec? Will TL51 play in all the $99 dud players that were just sold to 90,000 poor unsuspecting souls?

China has had a lot of video formats come and go and in an effort to appease Chinese bureaucrats we might also see a Chinese version of Blu-ray as well. China wants to promote their Chinese made AV codecs and are basically asking for both sides in this format war to make Chinese versions of their formats that can decode them.

I am curious to see what TL51 ends up being, assuming of course it is ever released, since I still haven't heard what the bandwidth specs for it are and which HD DVD players it does or does not work with.

Angry More contradictions from the FUD format

"50 gigabytes is overkill"
"Nanner, nanner, nanner! Our disc is bigger than yours!"

and

"We are changing our spec to accomodate the TL51 disc"
"Bad, bad! Blu-ray is an unfinished spec!"

why worry about TL51? they might not work in current players. While BD 100GB has been confirmed work with only firmware update

bd 100 is only as a storage spec. it wasn't been intended for use with movies. now, if players can support it we might have a different story

While the name doesn't matter, I wouldn't be so dismissive as to CH DVD's possible impact. There are 4 Chinese companies that have shown CH DVD proto-types built off the A30 platform. Change the codec chip(module?) and it is a dud player. It is quite possible that $99 DUDs will be readily available for the 08 holidays. BD needs to kill dud this spring. http://stor-age.zdnet.com.cn/stor-ag...7/495415.shtml

My guess is that there is a pretty good chance that if they do release TL51s, they will be telling people that they will work in old players with firmware updates, and people won't find out until later that their definition of "work" is that the first 2 layers work, but the 3rd layer has problems in those players.

If HD DVD can match the quality of Blu-ray, I'll go format neutral. I think it's too little too late now. The next month will be brutal.
