Japan Argento's Opera July 25th 2014

Pre-order up now, coming from Japan. It's listed as the full uncut 107 minute version. It's from Kadokawa, so hopefully true HD. I don't think I can wait for a possible American release. I remember Bill Lustig saying there was no scan available about a year or so ago. I guess that has changed.

Well shit that's excellent news!

Keep in mind that the TOURIST TRAP blu-ray released in Japan is apparently an upconvert, so there is the possibility that this could be one too.

As I said, I hope it is true HD. TT was released by Happinet. Kadokawa is a major of sorts, so hopefully no shenanigans.

Bah! This has not been confirmed anywhere, people are basing that off of ONE Amazon Japan comment that said the movie was in bad quality, for all we know that could be someone expecting a brand new film. However I did find it fishy that all of Happinets other blu-ray releases that were not upscales clearly have the words HD on the cover while Tourist Trap does not.

I thought 88 Films were bragging to wait on their version since the Japanese release was an upscale?

yes they do ship to the US. and rather quickly I might add. I was shocked how fast I got an order via DHL

you do have to sign up for Amazon Japan independently, the system does not port over US details/access (like the UK, German, France etc Amazon websites)

Very tempting, but I'll wait for tenebre6's assessment. Fortunately, it appears to have the Italian soundtrack, but unfortunately, no English subtitles. I'll probably catch hell for this, but I got a good laugh from the translated Amazon Japan reviews regarding "Dahlia Nikorodi."

I am looking forward to some feedback on this title. I am not brave enough to pre-order. Oh, and "awol" means "absent without leave".

I'm so close to ordering this, have you had a chance to check it out yet? Just to see if it's actually HD or if it's an upconvert? =)

Just finished watching it.
It is NOT an upscale. Looks fantastic, colors are the same as the old Japanese laserdisc. Quality of the video is very nice. I watched on a 142" screen and i didnt see anything that bothered me. I noticed a few details that i did not remember as well.
Audio has some noticeable his from leveling of the old audio source from analogue.
Italian AND English DTS-MA. Japanese subs.
Only extra is a commercial for the release of the blu ray .. odd

I love this movie and I am happy with the upgrade quality.
