here we keep a list of all the arguments made by hd-dvd fans against blu-ray that never came true:
-the majority of blu-ray titles are bd25 because it's too expensive to make low yielding dual-layer bd50 -the first player to reach $200 wins -vc9 is a magical codec that allows transparency at 12-15mbit -bd50 is overkill for hd movies and will never be fully utilized -most movies on blu-ray will use mpeg2 codec negating the capacity advantage -after the ps3 launch dies down, hd-dvd will get back the lead -hd-dvd will win because of porn support -profile 1.1 will be delayed again and again because it's too difficult to coordinate all the manufacturers -chinese made players will win the war -walmart support will win the war -fox isn't releasing because they will change sides -transformers will change the war -$99 players will win the war -thanksgiving will win the war still pending to be debunked: -the impact of thanksgiving won't be felt until the week after -the impact of firesale players won't be felt until after xmas because they're being gifted |

I wonder what they've got on the drawing board as their next excuse.
How can they support a format that makes them lie and constantly defend it just to feel good about supporting it? They use negative actions to try and bring positive mind sets. |

they are running out of excuses. It's all spin now. Like not counting PS3's, or vastly underestimating the buying power of PS3 owners. Or always blaming BOGO sales for the huge BD lead. Or if you leave out Sony, Disney, and Fox films then hddvd is winning 52:48. Or praising the "51gb triple layer" hd-disc which is no where near production yet. And my fave: Blu-ray is an unfinalized format. What a crock of BS, many electronics/computer products are unfinalized. Sure some of the older players might not fully play upcoming movies, but being an upgradable format is alot better than standing still.

No more talk of winning from Toshiba, but simply co-existing...
Mike Eves, retail marketing exec for the consumer products division at Toshiba recently commented, “The HD-DVD Blu-ray battle is like petrol versus diesel at the pumps. Both will probably exist together rather than a single format winning out”. Original article Lee |

lol I'm on a forum where a HD-DVD fanboy started of 2 threads "exposing BDA's strategy" he's complaining about bundling Off season with the PS3 and saying it adds to the sales figure toward nielsen's ratings, then we pointed out HD-DVD did the same thing and now a second thread is up on variation of the first... very silly I think... then again, they can't defend thier format, the more FUD they create, the misinformation, half truths etc... the more I'm confident that Warner will go Blu, the HD-DVD fanboys are an excellent argument that HD-DVD has lost, the truth and facts don't support the idea of a HD-DVD victory

Lets not forget this one "blu-ray will fail because nobody uses the Playstation 3 to watch movies, now the 360 add-on, on the other hand sells extremely well"

Are these Hd-Dvd fanboys going to shoot them selves when Blu-ray is officially named the successor to Dvd? What are they gonna do, they won't want to look like hypocrites buying into Blu-ray after the fall of Hd-Dvd.
Just need Warner as exclusive then the walls will come down on Hd-Dvd just like the Berlin Wall (I get the picture of that guy swinging the sledgehammer on the Berlin wall), its like Blu-ray crushing Hd-Dvd or Capitalism beating Communism. |

here's some more:
Hd-dvd discs are cheaper to manufacture as opposed to 25/50 GB Blu-ray discs The PS3 will fail due to Blu-ray Blu-ray is NOT the future of gaming Xbox is Much cheaper and viable than PS3 b/c of Blu-ray Blu-Ray movies are more expensive than Hd-Dvd combo discs to produce. Blu-ray discs are too expensive (retail price) as opposed to Hd-dvd or regular Dvd The adoption price of Blu-ray will kill the format Sony made Beta-Max so Blu-ray is GONNA fail DVD is still going to be the standard through the next 10 years Both Blu-ray and Hd-dvd are going to fail leaving a third party to win The 360 Hd-Dvd attachment is selling better than standalone Blu-ray players Hope these helped the list |

Actually the pS3 is going to thrive because of Blu Ray. Currently PS3 software sales (games) account for only 16% of all software sales (as of black Friday). That's compared to the Wii @ 30% and Xbox 360 @52%. Rumor has it that some exclusive PS3 titles may be going the way of 360 too in order for the developer to sell enough to recap their cost. So based on that, I can see why Sony needs to change its marketing strategy to make it a BR machine first / Gaming machine second. I would hate to see so many software developers pull out of PS3 that it becomes solely a BR player. |

Some of my favorites:
1. I hate Sony. 2. Saving $100-$200 on a one-time player purchase is worth a lifetime of lower capacity, lower bandwidth, more compression, less audio/video options, and more limited movie choices from fewer studios. 3. Disney and Fox should go neutral, going out of their way to support the minority format. However, HD DVD exclusive studios should continue to ignore the 2/3 of the market that buys Blu-ray. 4. BD50 is science fiction. 5. Both formats are losing. |
