Default Ghost in the Shell (1995) (25th Anniversary Edition)

Anchor Bay will be releasing a new edition of Ghost in the Shell for the manga's 25th anniversary. This will be the original unaltered version, rather than 2.0 .

Quote:
SYNOPSIS

Set in the year 2029 and following World Wars III and IV, a Japanese-led Asian block dominates world affairs. The alliance maintains its international supremacy through its elite security force whose cybernetically enhanced operatives tackle an array of hi-tech terrorists and other threats to international security. These augmented agents can "ghost hack" (i.e., download their consciousness) via the now omnipresent internet into other machines and human/machine cross breeds. Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cybernetically augmented female agent, has been tracking a virtual entity known as the Puppet Master with her crack squad of security agents. The shape-shifting Puppet Master, a rogue creation of a rival agency of the security apparatus, has concluded that it is a life form in its own right, "born in sea of information," and requested political asylum and true physical existence in defiance of its creators.

Thanks Mifune. Looks like this will roughly coincide with the UK release the following week. Wonder if it will be a steelbook as well.

Nice. I never did pick up 2.0, so this will work out perfectly for me to finally see Ghost in the Shell.

Praying its the original version and not the 2.0. One of my favorite movies of all time but I did not like the revisions made to the 2.0 version. But fantastic news anyway

Of course it is, there was no way it was going to be a UK exclusive.

What's more surprising is that the US release is pre-empting the Japanese one (for now).

Im sorry I don't know what you were trying to get at. So are you saying of course it is because the UK is getting the original version? I did not read anything about a UK version, only a steelbook.

As I attended the U.S. premiere of Ghost in the Shell, this announcement gave me pause. 25 years?! Next year is actually the 20th anniversary of the movie - not that I still don't feel old.

Looks like I can cancel the UK steelbook now. I'll probably get rid of the 2.0 disc too as I didn't really care for the changes.

I'd welcome a Steelbok release over here as well.

The manga started its run in May 1989, so yeah, 25 years.

This makes me so happy. Don't have to import now. Excited to check this movie out.

Nice. I have the 2.0 Version, so a remastered version of the original movie would be awesome.

I'd also like a new edition of the sequel Innocence, that had a subtitle track that didn't translate the songs (LOL I'm picky), but a remastered edition of GITS is far more important.

Yeah, but the transfer was awful. Like, even worse than upscaled DVD awful.

It looked like a bad VHS or laserdisc dub. Parts of the opening sequence were so dark you could barely see anything.

Where did you read this? Not that I'm doubting you, but I was asking this in the Upcoming Anime thread, as I have both this and the UK steelbook preordered. I figured the UK steelbook would be a recycled disc, as I've not seen any mention of it being the 25th Anniversary Edition?
