Default Hopefgully not true Superman sequel!!!!

Anne Thompson at Variety has posted some interesting things about the "Superman" franchise, new Justice League movie and third Batman pic:

Speaking of DC Comics pics, it is highly unlikely that Bryan Singer will return to shoot the next Superman movie. (The director is finishing up Tom Cruise's Nazi film Valkyrie, and prepping The Mayor of Castro Street). The next Superman we will see on the big screen will not be Brandon Routh, but a younger Superman among a cast of youthful superheroes in The Justice League. That movie will likely not be shot, however, until after the WGA strike is resolved. Warners is so happy with Dark Knight that their fondest hope is that Nolan will return to do another Batman.

While none of this is official, stay tuned for more on these projects!

Yea, this is true!! Superman Returns wasn't as big as anticipated. A Justice League movie would be killer, its really silly that it's taken this long!!

An announcement of the cast is pending!

I think the Justice League would be an interesting concept, if done correctly.
I had low expectations for Batman begins (liked the Keaton Batman) but Bale is becoming one of my favorite actors.

The only issue with that is that I'm not sure Bale will be playing Batman. That hasn't been decided yet.

WIth him doing another Batman movie, seems silly for him to share the spotlight with others.

I agree though it needs to be done correctly and not be cheesy!

Not that silly. If you are going to make a Justice League movie, you need to do it right. If you do it right witht that many superheros, you need a massive budget. I think it's more of a gamble than anything. That and the Green Lantern movie is in the works. So is a flash. Batman's already going. It better be done right

That is because Brandon Routh sucks and can't project a larger than life attitude like Christopher Reeve. Christopher Reeve showed lots of emotion. He got angry when trifled with by Lex Luther, he cried out when Lois died, showed defiance in turning the earth back in time, etc.

Brandon Routh had almost no emotion in finding out Lois had his baby. Not even facial expression. You almost thought he was half super-pansy. Was it his poor acting, poor direction, or a politically correct script to blame?

Kevin Spacey did a superb job as Lex Luther. Better than the slightly cheesy Gene Hackman. He made the movie worth watching.

And that is my blu-cents.

I didn't think Routh did a bad job in the movie, but when compared to Reeves it was lacking. Movie was a little slow, but I still enjoyed it.

you must admit that the plane scene was freakin sweet along with the machine gun scene. Other than that... Not too jaw dropping.

I also heard that the 3rd Batman movie has been greenlighted. You can bet everyone will be on board for it, just to much $$$ will be offered to do it and why not complete a trilogy and then move on if need be.

I read though that the Justice League movie is in the works, but that it is proving to be a much bigger project than was thought so it is simmering right now (per sci-fi now).

It's only simmering because of the writers strike. The initial concept has been already planned, the script needs written to develop the concept. It was full steam ahead prior to the strike. Just google the news section for JL movie.

I don't get the attacks on Brandon Routh. I think he did a fantastic job filling Christopher Reeve's tights. His Superman possessed all the qualities that George Reeves and Christopher Reeve had embodied on both the small and big screen. His performance was believable and touching. The problem with Superman Returns was that Bryan Singer and company basically remade "Superman: The Movie" without the origin story. Kevin Spacey was great as Lex Luthor but the film needed a new villain and should have avoided the whole Lois Lane/Superman-love triangle-melodrama. If they get a new writer and crank up the action I believe it will be a hit. If Universal can sink more cash into a new Hulk franchise, I hope to see a Superman Returns sequel sooner than later. And for God's sake, please leave Christian Bale in the Chris Nolan universe. Find someone else to play Batman in the Justice League film.

I didn't have a problem with Routh. I thought he was a pretty solid choice for Superman.

Now I DID have a problem with Kate Bosworth, the kid storyline, the cheesy WB melodrama. I'd like another Superman movie...I think there's potential, but Returns was just good stuff buried amongst a lot of bad. Seriously though, my biggest issue with Returns was Kate Bosworth and Lois Lane. That character was botched, unlikeable, stupid...ugh. Annoying too cause I liked other parts of the film...Routh filled the roll well, hell I liked Parker Posey and the flying stuff WAS great looking.

She wasn't any good, and the ending sucked!! Superman getting the crash cart??? Come on!! The last 30 min could have been cut out!

Ya, didn't he seem about as threatening and heroic as the Karate Kid. Get em Daniel Larusso

This is my favorite line...I like when a studio is happy with one of their movies. I'm so looking forward to The Dark Knight.

I thought Singer did a great job though the movie could used some editing it was unessesarily long. I am bummed if he isn't going to return to direct. Makes a little sense though since his writers left awhile ago and they seem to be a team.

I totally disagree. I thought Brandon Routh was as good a Superman as he was a Clark Kent. And with a dual-identitly superhero character, balance is the most important thing to achieve as Bale did with Batman better than any other actor did with their character in any other superhero movie. Routh wasn't as good as Bale but he was geeky enough to be Clark and polar enough to be an unsuspecting Superman. Kevin Spacey on the other hand looked completely uncomfortable as Lex Luthor. As versatile as he is, Lex Luthor is a difficult character to pull of, it would seem, if Kevin Spacey can't do it.
