Lionsgate wants Drew Goddard to do a "Cabin In The Woods" sequel
Thoughts?
Quote:
Drew Goddard is currently on the promotional tour for The Martian, the movie that he's penned the screenplay for (based on Andy Weir's book) and was at one time set to direct. Sir Ridley Scott has since helmed the movie but he worked with Goddard on bringing The Martian to the screen.
Chatting to us at the film's junket. the conversation with Drew Goddard soon moved on to Cabin in the Woods. Goddard directed the acclaimed horror movie, having co-written it with Joss Whedon. And having spent some time on the shelf, courtesy of financial issues at the time with MGM, the movie was eventually released to sizeable acclaim and $66 million of box office business (earning no shortage of change on its home formats release).
We quizzed Goddard on the rumor of a possible sequel to the film, and he confirmed to us that "the studio wants to do it. They've come to us."
"The funny part is, I don't think we planned that movie to do a sequel, you know?" he said.
We did suggest that the ending of the first film doesn't exactly leave too many open ends, but Goddard said, "It doesn't. But that being said, the fun thing about Cabin is, the rules are pretty crazy. We get away with a lot of crazy stuff. So, I'm sure we could figure it out if we got inspired to. I know Joss and I both feel like we don't want to tarnish what we did with the first one. With a sequel, we'd only do it if it made us laugh hard enough, I suppose."
So it isn't at a stage where you have concrete ideas for it?
"Yeah, we don't know. There's nothing in the hopper right now, but who knows? The way Joss and I work, we might wake up tomorrow and go, 'let's go do that,' or whatever."
