I gather everyone is going to complain about the 1:1 aspect ratio of the film

What a coincidence. I just looked up this film yesterday to see if it would ever open around me. Guess I don't have to wait too much more now to see it.

Severely loved this film. So tender, honest and intimate.

Unbelievable how many arthouse films are getting DVD-only releases recently. I collect Polanski films and his last, VENUS IN FUR, was DVD only in the US, as were two of Michael Winterbottom's recent films, THE LOOK OF LOVE and TRISHNA. I had to import all those from the UK.
Glad to know there's a Canadian BD of this one.

The aspect ratios in Xavier Dolan's films seem to be getting smaller - 1.33:1 for Laurence Anyways and 1:1 for Mommy. Definitely going to pick this up when it comes out here on Tuesday.

Coherence was only released on DVD in the States. One of my favorite movies from last year. Imported the blu from Sweeden, Germany, and Spain just to get my fix.

Looks like I'll be snagging the UK release since Lionsgate can't be bothered to release on blu.

There is no release date as of yet for the UK - perhaps you mean the Canadian release that just came out here this Tuesday? I picked it up and it's a great release, I would highly recommend it.

Mommy Blu-ray REVIEW

The film: It is excellent. The three leads are outstanding, but I really liked Suzanne Clément. This is the third film I've seen with her and she is a tremendous talent. The cinematography of course is very bold and very effective. Terrific soundtrack and the sequence with Celine Dion's On ne change pas is pure magic. Very simple film, but so powerful.

Canada has found its Maurice Pialat.

The disc: Wonderful presentation. My only minor concern pertains to the placement of the subtitles. On my disc they are a bit too low. When I project, everything is fine. But I was going through the supplemental features on my TV and noticed that they are positioned a bit too low.

Anyhow, great, great Canadian film. And what an utterly disappointing decision from Lionsgate Films to release it only on DVD. We should have had a local U.S. release. Inexcusable omission.

I also really liked Dolan's Laurence Anyways, which is out on Blu-ray in the U.S. via Breaking Glass Pictures. Also with a great soundtrack

Lana Del Rey? Ugh. That's like an arthouse film throwing in Linkin Park or something. The french sure use the most cliched of American tunes for their art flicks. I hope it's used in an odd, ironic way like Firework in Rust and Bone.

Imported copy arrived a couple of days ago. Packaging is beautiful. Can't wait to watch it again.

And the soundtrack is wonderful. Every song works, especially Oasis' Wonderwall.

Great review, I only saw it this past week in the cinema (it only recently came out theatrically in the UK; outside of festival screenings), but found myself falling in love with it. Interestingly, it was Kyla's character that seemed to knit my emotional connection with the film. It was a tumultuous experience. The lows are so devastating, but the highs are euphoric, it's genuinely one of those films that manages that rare feat of keeping you connected on an emotional level through such dramatically contrasting states.

I actually own Tom at the Farm, but hadn't yet gotten around to watching it, but I promptly found myself ordering Dolan's other films (sadly only available on DVD here in the UK; but for £3 each a future double dip doesn't really sting). I can't wait to check them out. Hopefully this will get a UK BD release, but if not I shall be importing the Canadian release. Thanks for the review.

I've heard very polarized reactions to this movie. Can't wait to give it a try!
