I find the picture over optical to be quite dark. Excellent black levels, though.

ROFL!

I prefer HDMI since I have a sexy onkyo 805, otherwise component would be my next choice.

I have the 805 also. What I'm talking about is the HD cable box is running the three color connectors out to the TV. Would Optical be better instead for TV veiwing?

Out of curiosity, what playback device and display are you using that has an optical link between them for picture?

Yes. Your right. It's getting late and I'm loosing it. Let me rephrase all. For TV veiwing:

1. S-video vs. 3 color component connections.

2. Optical vs. two left and right composit connections.

Trying to make sure I will get best PQ and SQ for TV viewing,

Thank you....

The upcoming display port standard supports optical cables. Presently, I do not know of any available implementations of this new standard. Although the latest generation of video chipsets from both nvidia and ati offer support for it if the oem chooses to implement. On the display side I know of no current or soon to come to market implementations for this. It is a very cool tech, it allows for higher bandwidth, greater distances, increased security over HDCP, and one of the most interesting things...daisy chaining displays. Years before this one comes to fruition, but it is something to look forward to in the future.

In order of best looking:

1. HDMI
2. Component (Yellow Green Red + 2 audio)
3. S-Video
4. Composite (Yellow video cable + 2 audio)
5. Coax

I've never heard of optical video linking. Only audio.

1-2 may vary. Especially on slightly older TVs, component may look better.

enjoy

Well, there are the fiber optic DVI cables for long runs, but I don't think anyone here was referring to those . . .
