United Kingdom Andromeda - Season 1 /6th May 2013 and Season 2 Pre-orders

Andromeda: Season One Blu-ray

Release Date: 6th May 2013 £43.25

A real surprise ...this..
I would guess this will be an upscale, like the Farscape release..

Andromeda: Season Two Blu-ray

Holy..... I never thought I'd see this series on Blu-ray.

I would love to get it but i think I'll wait and see how the Picture Quality turns out first.

I very much doubt it as we would have heard something about it before now, most likely just another upscale like Farscape but at least with that they had higher quality PAL masters to use and we got Seasons 1-4 for less than £70, just one season of Andromeda upscaled from NTSC for £50+

Any reviews exist for this yet it was released today? I'm quite interested in the Video Quality of this box-set.

Is it just a upscale from the DVD's or have they gone and actually pulled off a good transfer to HD?

Just an upscale so expect Farscape quality or worse, at least Farscape had PAL masters which have a higher res than NTSC.

I just picked up Season 1... and well, it is a bit of a disappointment. It is exactly as stated, only an upscale. It doesn't appear they did anything additional to it. Can even still see the interlacing. Text is blurry.

Overall I found its nothing more than my putting the DVD in the Bluray player and having it upscale.

If you already have the DVDs, I would say don't waste your money. If you don't yet own it, I would guess maybe it would be worth it, if anything for having it on a newer media format.

My .2c!

I take it those that were wondering if it was an upscale had missed my post which was on the 24th may.

Here is one line from the post which is really a sum up.

Unfortunately, as is the case with a lot of these shows, we are unable to access the original film masters so we are using the existing masters.

I got season 1 of Andromeda on Blu-ray in the post today from Zavvi for around 22 euro's.

Regarding the video quality it's like Farscape on Blu-ray an Upscale but i did watch an episode on DVD then watched it on Blu-ray and i did notice that there is a bit more detail in the Live Action scenes and i found colors to be a bit more vibrant.

Not forgetting to mention that the episodes are in Wide-Screen unlike the old Region 2 season 1 DVD's which were in Full-Screen.

Here is some pictures of the box-set sorry for the low quality

[Show spoiler]

The inside of the cover is pretty cool i think

This seems a bit sad that Andromeda doesn't get as much love as Star Trek, i was expecting at least some upgrade i mean look at what they did to Star trek the original series that looks amazing, I might wait and see if it gets a new transfer, and i am disappointed it doesn't come with a slipcase.

Yeah I was disappointed by the lack of slippy as well.

In terms of waiting, I really don't see the show getting a proper remaster. It would be far too cost prohibitive - Star Trek can afford to throw money at remastering itself, it's insanely popular.

Despite being an 'upscale' job, this is still the best version of the series you're going to get. If you have the DVDs already then it's questionable whether you'd find the upgrade worthwhile, but if you don't have the DVDs then this would be the version to get.

Is the 3rd season getting released or what? It was listed with a March release date on here and nothing. The DVDs look like shit, not to mention apparently being out of print in the US.

Yea, not suprised at all. Sales must have been really bad.
Hopefully they will release it at some point, along with the other seasons.

The problem was that these were so over priced for the quailty you get. Revelation Films were obviously trying to cash in on the Star Trek blu-ray success by pricing these at £50+ on release.......Big Mistake.

Under £20 each right now on amazon for seasons 1 and 2. I would buy them right now, but as we don't know whats happening with the other seasons, theres no point.

No subtitles, not even English. That is very disappointing. It can't be that costly to add subtitles. The same happened to Farscape also.

Upscala and no subtitles.
It seems like they want to make as much money as possible with as little cost as possible.

I have been waiting to purchase Andromeda since the DVDs was very hard to come by. The Germen 2012 DVD release did contain both German and English subtitles.
