Anyone here have any thoughts on which Powell/Pressburger film will appear on Blu Ray next, and when?
Is it likely to be A Canterbury Tale, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, The Small Back Room, A Matter of Life and Death, One of Our Aircraft is Missing, 49th Parallel, Ill Met by Moonlight, I Know Where I'm Going, or something else? |

I'm not sure there's any easy way of guessing this. Most of their films were released by ITV on DVD but I think they've all but given up releasing blu-rays for the time being. I think there's a better chance of Criterion releasing them since they released many of them (A Matter of Life and Death being the notable exception) on DVD. Of course, they will be region A locked, fine for me since I have a region free player but obviously not for many.

When I saw the film in Poland 2 years ago with Thelma Schoonmaker attending she said the film was in need of a new restoration and was on the priority list.

My second favourite PnP film, behind AMOLAD.
And, of course, a damn sight cheaper to restore. I believe Criterion did some work for the DVD, so possibly all that's needed is a new 4K (I'd settle for 2K) scan. Or possibly that's a bit long in the tooth now and more work is required. Have I said this before, I'm sure I have. I see a lot of IKWIG! in Scorsese's Shutter Island. It's the dream-like, almost fairy tale feel to them both. Criterion are still selling the DVD and (for what it's worth) you can stream it in HD from Amazon in the USA. It'd certainly keep me going until Thelma gets the brass together for AMOLAD. |

49th Parallel is showing on Mubi for thirty days from today - in SD. So presumably there's not HD master just yet, so no Blu-ray forthcoming.

![]() Was hoping for an MoC edition at some point (or maybe Arrow Academy, or BFI). Word on the street is Criterion are doing it in the US, but not sure about UK as well... |

If it's the same DVD that I have, there's a lovely extra of wordless archive behind the scenes footage to the soundtrack of Debussy's Claire de Lune. It's often thought that Tourneur's Night of the Demon inspired Kate Bush's Hounds of Love because of the 'It's in the trees, it's coming!' sample. However, if you listen closely to the lyrics it's this film she draws from As a postscript, anything that features Esmond Knight & Hugh Griffiths, I'll watch.
