How do you guys put them under N for National? I know Vegas isn't considered National Lampoons. I started to put Christmas under C, European under E. Vacation and Vegas under V. The new one is so bad couldn't stand it.
Same thing goes for The Fugitive under F and I put US Marshals under U. Thoughts? Or what have you guys put them under? |

Not specific to this, as I don't have any of these. But when I have a situation like this I file them alphabetically according to the first in the series, and then chronologically after that.
On my shelf, for example, Minions is filed immediately after Despicable Me 2. |

I have them on DVD and file them under C, E, and V.
But I have all my comedy DVDs separate and it's easy enough to keep track of them. |

I think my ordering of titles only makes sense to me sometimes. My wife doesn't even understand how I organize some of them.
I consider all the vacation movies to be standalone and not direct sequels so I have them all filed separately. Movies that are direct sequels or spinoffs I have grouped together by order of release and filed by the title of the first film in the series. (Minions after Despicable Me 2 in the Ds, US Marshals after The Fugitive in the Fs, The Dark Knight after Batman Begins in the Bs, and even Maleficent after Sleeping Beauty in the Ss). But then I also have all the bond movies together chronologically but filed alphabetically by "007". |

I have both Planet of the Apes movies filed alphabetically and then followed by Dawn and Rise. |

On the shelf, I don't do alphabets, I do genres. Vacation is in the slapstick comedy section, in the same general vicinity as Police Academy and stuff. European and Vegas Vacation are in the same case as the first (six-disc case with both DVDs and BDs). Christmas Vacation is in the Christmas section.
In a database, I'd have it listed in the V's, with sequels also listed in the V's so that they appear immediately after the first movie. |

I put them sequentially according to release wherever the first movie lands in the overall alphabetical structure. So, all four are in the N's because the first film's title is National Lampoon's Vacation. That way, if I want to watch them as a series, I don't have to go to four separate spots in my collection to retrieve them. Like all my James Bond movies technically are in the D's because the first film of the series is Dr. No.

all series goes by the name of the first movie and then the sequels follow. I don't get too legalistic, since I don't say I want to watch "National Lampoon's Vacation". I just want to watch "Vacation", so it's under V. All Planet of the Apes movies under "P" and then the sequels and reboots follow. All Batman movies under "B", including Dark Knight and DK Rises. Superman movies under "S", including Man of Steel. Sometimes common sense trumps OCD.

The big question is, where do you file Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure?
I'm guessing here... ![]() |
