Default 2001 on the PS3 - no Top Menu normal?

I just got 2001 and saw it yesterday. Excellent Blu-ray version.
But I have a problem...and it's not the Overture. The Top Menu doesn't work - I just get a black screen.
I have a 60GB PS3 with firmware 1.94 (installed with Rachet and Clank).

I pop in 2001 and it goes through Track 18 which is a black screen (possibly more tracks but things progress quickly - the time progress bar in the display HUD is choking on the disc, i would seem). I suppose this is the FBI warning but nothing is displayed. Afterwards it correctly displays Track 13 which is the WB logo animation. Then it goes straight into Track 1, the movie itself, which it plays back without any problems. Now, if I at any time want the Top Menu, I just get a black screen. The Pop-up Menu is working during the movie.

Is anybody else seeing this?

I have no idea what your talking about, so I'm gonna take a wild guess. In case 2001:A Space Odyssey is your first WB movie, WB doesnt put main menu screens on its Blu-rays. As soon as you put the disc in the movie just starts. You can access the pop up menu at any time, but no WB blu-ray has ever had a main menu screen. As for the black screen in the beginning, i watched the DVD version of this movie and it also had that for almost 5 min, I have no clue why but it appears to be part of the movie.

The beginning of the movie before the blue MGM screen, the haunting audio with a black screen, is the Overture. That's fine.

I'm cool with the fact that the movie kicks off immediately but there is no Top Menu in 2001. I just checked Full Metal Jacket (Deluxe) and Clockwork Orange and they display the Top Menu just fine. The two latter movies also show the FBI warning at the very beginning, 2001 does not.

Warner discs do this. It's their usual menu (or menu-less!) set up.

(i like going directly to the movie by the way, on a theater there are no menus )

Unless you like trailers before your movies, in which case it's fun to sort through the Extras before getting out your popcorn for the main movie.

Why is this moved to the newbie section?
I do know about Warner's approach of starting the movie immediately.
So let me make it simpler:

1) There is no FBI warning
2) Clicking the Top Menu button on my PS3 remote results in a blank screen where the only way out is to click the Clear button

On the other Kubrick movies from Warner I have (Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket and Clockwork Orange) the Top Menu is there.
If 2001 isn't supposed to have a Top Menu, I would expect the PS3 to warn me in the usual way that it is not possible.
