Default Is this normal with PS3 when i play BD movies?

Hi,

I just bought Tears from the Sun BD movie and i gotta say the quality is madness!!! However, i notice my ps3 will switch from 1080i to 1080p several times before the movie begin. Is this normal? I have a vizio 47" lcd 1080p. Or do i have to update my firmware for my ps3? I also notice the same thing when i play ps3 games as well.

It is normal, well actually I haven't tested to see if it happens in 1.81 yet.

I believe some of the FBI warning screens and whatnot are in 1080i, and the PS3 outputs video at its native resolution.

depends on the tv. We got a really low quality 27'' maxent for the guest room, I hooked the ps3 up once to see movie quality on it, and it would do that, if your tv's 1080i(in my guest rooms case) can't handel the work load it goes back to the 720p ... thats normal, its just trying to help lol... but it doesnt do it for either of our two 32''ers or the 65''... just depends on the tv

As a few have said, several of the pre-movie screens and i think some menus on some discs are in 1080i (National Grographic's Relentless Enemies has some in 720) so the player is cycling through the video that's not in 1080p

Me too this is completely Normal and PS3 decides the best format can be display Through HDMI

for example when you watch Features recorded in Standard definition,You can see very clear how PS3 engaged to give you 480P on your Display, and when you back to movies again PS3 engaged to give you 1080P or 1080i depending on the content of BD
