Help! Normal DVD won't play in PS3...but will on DVD player?

I'm not 100% sure this is the right forum for this, so please bear with me. I've begun watching Xena again, and everything has been going just fine. I watch episodes on a variety of players around the house, occasionally on my PS3 on an HDTV. Today, I was horrified to see that one of the episodes will not play on my PS3 whatsoever. It just hangs on the menu forever (Season 2, Disc 1, Episode 2 - "Remember Nothing"). Puzzled, I next tried it on my HD-DVD player, where it would load for about a minute, then start play at the beginning of chapter 2. Efforts to rewind or fastforward caused freezing.

Then, I tried it on my computer. Plays perfect. Same goes for two other laptops, my XBox 360, a normal DVD player and my absolutely horrible portable DVD player. I find it odd that the disc refuses to play that episode (and only that one) on my two hi def movie machines.

So, my question: Are there some DVD's that won't play as well on BD players as they would on an old school DVD player? And even better, if you have Season 2 of Xena on DVD, could you please place it in your BD player (PS3 preferably) and tell me if that episode plays? Thanks for looking and thanks for ANY input!
