Brazil Space Dogs 3D Blu-ray (2010) [Region Free] [Brazil only]

The only English-friendly 3D Blu-ray release of Space Dogs was in Brazil - the disc is REGION FREE and includes the English dub. Other foreign releases (e.g. in Germany) do not include English audio or subtitles.

Original post:
Anyone who can access Netfix 3D should check this title out.

"This animated treat follows pampered dog Belka, who is the star of a Moscow circus in the 1950s. When she gets lost, she's befriended by a feisty stray named Strelka, who joins her on an adventure that leads into outer space."

The 3D is so good that I found myself pausing quite a bit to admire. I wish Netflix would give us the option of a clean pause screen instead of the picture blocking time bar. One wierd thing happened though. In one scene objects that should be on the ground were about a foot in the air. The scene was an outdoor city scene and the trees and other object were risen from the sidewalk and ground. That was wierd. Otherwise I thought the 3D was out of the ordinary. The depth is stupid good. I'll have to watch this again for the pop outs. I liked the story well enough also. Space Dogs is one of the best 3D titles on Netflix along with Scars which also has that very good depth.

I watched the first minute or so and categorized the 3D as worst I've ever seen--auto-conversion errors, reverse 3D, minimal depth, painful to look at, etc. Does it get better after the opening scene, or did I experience some kind of glitch?

Gave it a second chance. Space Dogs has way too many converted oddities for my comfort level. Scar looks great though. I really enjoyed the Sky Soldier feature.

At least it won't be a total waste since it'll keep you warm for 30 seconds. The blu-ray of the 3-D Space Dogs on the other hand will last for decades...

Actually, new option. Spend the loonies, get Space Dogs, watch it in disbelief, then burn it. The fire will last much longer than 30 seconds....just avoid breathing the carcinogenic fumes.

Hi jchung,

Well don't know what I would have done if I saw this first. Don't want to lose my eyesight. LOL

But saw this from jbug written about a decade ago:

"The 3D is so good that I found myself pausing quite a bit to admire. I wish Netflix would give us the option of a clean pause screen instead of the picture blocking time bar. Only one review on Amazon:

"The 3D is very limpid, very good in depth, few gathers, it has nothing to be reproached compared to some movies (ghost rider 2 for example)"

So these two give me hope. Will let ya know.

Just saw the theatrical trailer and it was advertised in 3D. So even if post-converted at least it's not one of those auto-conversions made for bluray.

Well, I can't speak for jbug but it looks like he paused it a lot, which I can attest is when it looks best. When you get around to watching Space Dogs, you might as well make a night of it and watch a few others with comparable 3D "conversions":
Turkish
Brazilian
all releases

And for good measure, watch a few auto-conversions. Go big or go home, right?

Hi jchung

Well I have Bolts and Blip along with Nutcracker so if Space Dogs comes close to matching their 3D quality then I'll be okay. Didn't get Illusionauts because of the inherent disc problems.

Noticed one on eBay selling the German release stating it has no English but in his item description he notes it includes English subtitles. Back cover confirms this isn't so. Gather two out of three ain't bad for buyer confidence. LOL

The animated titles jchung has pictured are faulty, so it's not a recommendation! Nutcracker is a bad conversion no doubt about it but I'd still rather watch it in 3D than 2D.

As for the German Space Dogs disc, I'm sure it does not include English subtitles.

I would still love to know what exactly is wrong with the Turkish release of The Illusionauts. I wonder if it is something that can be solved by doing a remux, like when the movie goes into 3D mode someone messed up the frame rate flag or something like that.

The Brazilian edition is glitchy though, same goes for the Turkish edition of The Illusionauts, which is why jchung mentioned those specific editions.

The Turkish release is, and glitch-free, and happily that’s the one I have! A super fun film with great 3D

Well, just got and watched Space Dogs.

Don't know why the 3D got so much criticism. Anticipated being very disappointed but that certainly was not the case. Strong 3D with nice depth, spatial separation and picture quality. No real popouts but so what? Certainly nothing to complain about. And the DTS audio was excellent.

For me the story itself started out slow but picked up and began holding my interest.

Definitely recommended if one can still find the English language edition. All region.

Well, life is too short for me to shove this back in the player for a re-do. I've already expressed my negatives views on it's 3D.

This will just have to remain one of life's mysteries. A few others seem to have purchased this recently, so guess we'll wait for them to chime in.
