Default I wish studios would include a 3D 1080p disc with 4K

It would make my purchase decisions easier. Every single time, I have to choose between buying a 3D version or the 4K UHD to future-proof my collection.
I can buy films like Deadpool with peace of mind but titles like BvS make it a tough call.

4K + 3D BD + 2D BD would be the best solution.

I'm already glad that they even include the normal Blu-ray. That way I can already buy UHD-releases for future-proofing even though I don't own any 4k hardware.

4k + 3D BD + 2D BD probably isn't benefitting them in any way. Those who really want 3D BD will buy it anyway. So they get their money. Some may even buy 4k and the 3D BD -> double money.

I have never watched any of my 3d titles in 2d I just cant when I prefer the experience of 3d over 2d.

But I am keeping an open mind with how the experience of UHD titles compare to the ones I have seen in 3d, and will then make the decision to go with UHD or 3d for future titles.

No double dipping.

Unfortunately HDR and 3D mix like oil and water. They don't go together. HDR requires up to 1000 nits of brightness and 3D dims the picture so we'll never see 3D on UHD BD. And since sales of 3D discs are so low and have been declining, together with manufs leaving out 3D on all but a few high end models, the studios have absolutely no incentive to include 3D in a UHD BD combo pack.

I thought this as a good idea about six months ago, and got slammed by the guys in the 3D area as some kind of subversive. In the meantime, 3D is fading fast, and 4K/UHD is off to a glacial start.

Oh, well.

3D benefits from the added brightness that UHD TVs offer. I've always had 2 beefs with 3D since the first sets were released, ghosting and a dim picture. I for one am very pleased with the brightness and the little to none ghosting on my Sony 940C and my JS9500.

Some titles are being released combo pack 4K + 3D blu ray but of course none of the ones we really want. It doesn't help the fact that most TV manufacturers dropped 3D from their sets too. but I hope they add them to the combo pack as a final push for 3D down the road.

Most studios will not release 3D discs with UHD because it would push the retail price into the stratosphere and UHD is already overpriced.

Good point about the added brightness. It sure helps on the 940C which I have as well and get practically no crosstalk.

Such a combo pack would need to be priced (even) higher, disincentivizing sales. And there are 3D-haters who would kvetch about that higher price because of something they have no interest in.

The two experiences/presentations can both be marketed as "premium" when they are separate.

Poor retail. But I'd opine that an even greater percentage compared to 3D--maybe even the majority--of UHD sales are online.

I'm sure it's just an expense thing, putting three BD discs in one box for the same price. Also home 3D is slowly phasing out, right or wrong.

I decided that if the film is 3D then I'll get the 3D version and skip the UHD cause I like the 3D experience as well and so no point going UHD on a 3D film. But if a film is 2D then UHD I will go.

Got the passive 3D LG TV and the cinema glasses. I also got the light blocked out the room since I find a dark room makes the viewing better.

I never been fussed about the glasses and never get a headache from 3D so it never bothers me. But I can understand it would others when at home.

I seen some trying to view it in a normal lit home environment like with sun coming through the windows and for me it never works as well compared to a more darken room environment.

This, and a LOT of new 2016 TVs even dropped the 3D feature altogether. The Sony X850C has 3D, while the 2016 X850D does not, and I think even LG or Panasonic in a YouTUbe interview at AVS' YouTube page said they dropped 3D from most, if not all of their 2016 lineup.

Exactly. The Japanese releases are more expensive, and the ones where 3D discs are included are more expensive than those without. Also, it's only Fox Japan who seem to be including 3D discs in legacy titles. WHV Japan and Sony Japan are not including them in any titles that they've released before, apparently even In the Heart of the Sea, which isn't releasing on video until May 18th, 2016 in Japan, but which will not include the 3D disc when it is released on UHD about a month later (June 22nd, 2016) in Japan.

The only exception is the Point Break remake, which, (unless something else is announced) is the first day-and-date UHD release for a feature film in Japan. There, the Blu-ray 3D discs will only be in the UHD pack, which is an interesting choice, and one which you could argue makes sense, particularly in Japan.

While it is good they supply the standard blu-ray with UHD blu-ray, I do wish they would offer a 3D combo pack for those who like 3D too.

As it stands, I will just continue to buy 3D blu-ray's over UHD blu-ray, if the movie has a good 3D picture anyway. I will only buy 2D movies on UHD, just because they throw in the standard blu-ray.

LG still have a number of 3d capable screens. They have just reserved the feature for their higher end models. They figure people will pay extra for the feature if they want it.
