It's well known by now that the Geneon and Victor releases are the best for the series, so I've decided to do a comparison (it also includes FUNimation's Anime Classics edition and Selecta Visión's release).
Just to note, I resized Selecta Visión's screenshots to 720x480 because 720x576 looks weird. Comparison #1 [Show spoiler] Comparison #2 [Show spoiler] Comparison #3 [Show spoiler] Conclusion: The Geneon is by far the best of the bunch, with Victor coming in second, Selecta in third (I actually like the "smoothness" of the picture and it's a bit saturated) while FUNimation's in last place. FUNimation's release really does look as bad as people say. Hope this helps, and that they (in Japan) make a HD Remaster or at least a quality upscale someday. |
