What are the differences between the discs for the UK and the US release? Are they the same discs?

Us version gets the Omen 666 with a 1.85:1 transfer, the audio appears to be the same DTS-HD Master 5.1 and I think the other 3 films are the same 2.35:1

This trilogy set was the perfect option for me, as I didn't want the remake in my collection!

Does anyone own this and could comment on whether or not it's worth buying? Or is it worth just sticking with the Omen dvd boxset?

I am not sure about the sequels but yes the original "The Omen" (with Gregory Peck) is a must have and a great improvement over the DVD. The image is soft but yes its intended by the director and it adds to movie's atmosphere. Colors are strong. I say buy it. I am not impressed by the sequels and never watched them on BD so cant comment on them!

Does this Blu Ray set include anything extra the DVD set doesn't ?

I have the trilogy set on DVD, the one that folds out into a cross. This has;
Omen: Director's Commentary
'666 The Omen Revealed' Documentary (46 mins)
'Curse Or Coincidence' Featurette (6 mins)
Jerry Goldsmith Score Interviews (18 mins)
Omen II: Producer's Commentary
Omen III: Director's Commentary
All: Theatrical Trailers

At £10 I'd happily upgrade to BR if the PQ/AQ is better and includes all the extras, but am also interested if there is anything 'exclusive to Blu Ray' ?

Play.com say no extras and Amazon only mention DVD info (although Blu Ray)

Anyone own this set? Could you confirm what extras, if any are included ?

Thanks

I have the UK set. It contains the following extras:

The Omen
Audio Commentary by Richard Donner (director) and Brian Helgeland (screenwriter)
Isolated Music Score
Richard Donner on The Omen
The Omen Revelations (A BonusView Trivia Track)
Introduction to the film by Richard Donner
Deleted "Dog Attack" scene
Documentary: 666: The Omen Revealed
Screenwriter's Notebook
An Appreciation: Wes Craven
Documentary: The Omen legacy
Curse or Coincidence?
Jerry Goldsmith on The Omen score
Theatrical Trailer
Stills Gallery

Damien: Omen II
Commentary by Harvey Bernhard (producer)
Trailer

Omen III: The Final Conflict
Commentary by Graham Baker (director)
Trailer

So the first film misses out on two of the three audio tracks on the US release - including the one by a group of film historians that the blu-ray.com review says is the pick of the bunch. Otherwise, they seem to be identical to the US releases (though of course the US set also includes the Van Sant-ish remake of the first film).

Well done to Fox with this boxset.

The films look better and sound better than the DVD's although they are never going to look and sound like new films.

What a great score from Jerry Goldsmith!

It would have been nice if they had included the 1990 Omen IV TV film as a bonus as this seems to have been neglected on Blu-ray.

I ordered this the other day from Amazon for £9.99 and received it yesterday.

It came with the slipcover aswell for anyone interested, which is surprising as it's been out for quite a while.

Cheers MacEachaidh. I found I could zoom in on the back cover, but thanks for taking the time to list.

Bought it minutes after posting. @ £9.99 for a great trilogy ( I actually enjoy all 3 ) couldnt go wrong. I only held back buying the first in the 2 for £15 because I wanted all 3 on Blu.

Personal opinion, B-RW, but I don't reckon it's worth your time, let alone a fiver.

The remake was terrible anyway, so it will not be missed in the UK set.

The Final Conflict: Omen III is one of the most magnificent soundtracks that I've ever heard in a film, it is simply gorgeous! The orchestrations, and the choir are just fantastic. I like the score so much, I bought the soundtrack, and it's very rare that I buy soundtracks. The late: Jerry Goldsmith should have won a Academy Award for Best Score for The Final Conflict, but unfortunately he was overlooked. I also love the soundtrack Jerry Goldsmith had composed for: Basic Instinct as well. Jerry Goldsmith was one of the best Movie Composers in the film industry, and he will be greatly missed.

^^^^^^^

Yeah, I only mentioned the remake because it's another distinguishing point between the US and UK sets - but not necessarily a desirable one.

About the soundtrack to Omen III, I rewatched the film just recently and found the music enormously distracting. Not totally its fault - it's been used as stock music in so many other contexts, in trailers, commercials and documentaries, that in my mind's ear it no longer sounds like it belongs to that film. By unfortunate association it almost made the film itself feel like a trailer, and I found I kept expecting some corny voice-over to chime in at any second.

It also didn't help that the score isn't scene-specific, timed to the tics and hit points of a specific sequence as a lot of film scores are, but layered over the top as a kind of overall "tell us what to think" music. I've never been a fan of that approach. For me, it becomes unintentionally hilarious when the music is sawing away, trying to raise our emotions and a sense of either threat or grandeur, almost completely out of keeping with what we're actually seeing on-screen. (In that respect it reminds me a lot of Predator, where the bombastic action-movie music over the humdrum opening sequence lifts that sort of incongruence to an utterly ridiculous level.)

For that, and other unfortunate reasons, I personally find it very hard to take the third Omen movie very seriously. I watch it as the concluding part of the trilogy, but I doubt I would ever choose to watch it as a film on its own merits.

Well that explains it! You're just not fond of soundtracks period, only the movie, but The Final Conflict is a beautiful score. Ask anybody else, and they'll agree, if they familiar with the film. Soundtracks cues are suppose to heighten, and intensified specific scenes. That's what soundtracks are recorded for! Try watching a movie without music, and I'm referring to the old silent movies either.
