I apologize if this has been posted before, but I have had the Samsung BD-P1400 player for about 2 weeks now and love it except for one issue when playing standard defintion dvd's it will randomly freeze and or shut down for no reason. It does this with both new and old dvd's and happens anywhere from 4 or many more times during a single movie. Blu rays play with no issues. I have upgraded the firmware and and am running the version 1.2 which I believe is the latest available from Samsung. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check out the existing threads about the 1200 and 1400. I've had lots of problems with standard DVDs including skipping and freezing. I think enough of us have called and emailed Samsung that they are well aware of the problems. Supposedly there is a new firmware release coming out this week (cough cough). Let's hope for the best.

Thanks for all the info and advice. i was really hoping the firmware 1.2 would have taken care of the issue but no luck. I have arrange an exchange with Amazon, hopefully I will not have the same problem with the new player.

I've not had any DVD freezing problems on mine, but the upconversion doesn't impress me; the picture seems soft compared to my progressive scan DVD player.

Basically I'm doing a comparison with my DVD with progressive scan (which isn't even an upconverting player). The edges seem sharper and more defined on this player; the color and resolution seem ok on the Samsung but the edges seem softer and a bit "out of focus" to me. When I had the 1200 model (for one day!) I was able to compensate for this a bit as the HDMI menu had a "sharpen" feature that actually helped the DVD picture. However, that feature has been removed from the 1400 model. Again, this only applies to my standard DVDs; the BDs look great.
