Default DRAM Class Action Lawsuit

I just saw a commercial for this during the evening news. I know many of you bought certain electronic devices from 1998-2002, so check it out....

This absolutely reeks of some kind of hustle. Give these guys personal information? No way.

I tend to opt out of such lawsuits....

They tend to just be the lotto for the lawyer.

Good luck, man. They're talking about settlements of maybe $10. Something doesn't add up.

I saw this thread last week and mostly figured it was about failing ram. Today I remembered the thing about the price fixing that went on with RAM in the 90s and early 2000s. I then checked out the link. Yeah, it was about the price fixing.

This is a legit lawsuit. The big DRAM manufacturers like Micron, Samsung, Infineon, Hynix, and a bunch of others were doing some MAJOR stuff to jack up the price of ram. They ended up causing consumers to spend billions of extra dollars. Executives from all over the world went to jail over this and many of these companies paid some of the largest anti-trust fines in
history.

I am so getting in on this. I remember how much money I had to scrap together for RAM back then and how these companies were doing things to jack up the price like crazy.

You never "had" to buy anything. If you stayed away from Radio Shack and used the Computer Shopper magazine, you could get a good deal.

This lawsuit has a pretty bad aura around it. The main appeal is, "Do nothing but give us your personal information, and we'll send you $10. You don't have to show receipts or anything."

If you're going to do that, you're looking for free money, and lots of people will promise you free money. These are not the kind of people you'd invite into your home, or let them tinker with your identity on line.

Or perhaps you would. Good luck.

The lawsuit doesn't have a bad aura around it. What has a bad aura around it is that these international corporations were colluding to price fix and cost consumers billions of dollars.

All this thing really is 34 states attorneys generals investigated and sued a dozen or so corporations for price fixing. It isn't some sleazy law firm you see on tv telling you to call them when you get into a car accident who sued. These companies were committing documented proven crimes and as a result people went to jail and these companies all agreed to settle by paying more than a quarter billion dollars in fines. That money is in a pool which gets disbursed to these 34 states attorneys general. If you are a claimant the attorney general in your state sends you a portion of the fines they collected based upon your claims. These companies already cost you and me money either directly or indirectly. There isn't anything sleazy or wrong about filing claim when you were in fact forced to pay higher taxes and fees (this did cost government and corporations money which they of course passed on to you) and higher prices for the things you bought and used.

FYI guys if you no longer have a receipt you wont see a penny. That's how these Class Action lawsuits work.

Unlikely unless you are a big purchaser with a claim over $10 (see the site for payouts, most consumers would not go over the $10 minimum payout). I've received checks for a couple of these types of settlements and never had to show proof.

I can't believe it.

I just got a letter in the mail, with the State Of Michigan Attorney General letterhead. It explains the lawsuit and settlement, gives a phone number (and website listed in the OP) to call with any questions.

Attached is a check for a little over $50, issued though Huntington Bank.

I never thought I'd hear about this again.

I got one awhile back for $200. I had the same thing happen recently for an old laptop I bought, randomly got a check because of a lawsuit of the failure rate of the computer. It was 10 or so years after I had it in the first place.

I received a $26. check from this settlement. Never had to show any receipts. But I had all of them, as the dates in question, were when my wife and I started dating in 1998, and she bought me my first Big TV, then we got a computer together, and much more. Needless to say when I found I had all of these receipts, I purged all the unnecessary from the last 18 years...
