Pretty expensive for another "fake" Oppo.

Got turned off after I read creator of Reavon. Not a big fan of Reavon players. Easy pass for me.

Glad to see though a new player coming to market.

Hopefully this Magnetar UDP800 4K Blu-ray player will be sold in the USA with the region A and region 1 lock feature. One of the reasons the OPPO players were so popular is because one could purchased a third party region free/selectable kit that plugged in externally or internally with no soldering required. I am guessing Magnetar most likely will not allow a third party add on region free kit to be added to their player since the BDA and studios might not like that feature.

I am disappointed that the Magnetar has less inputs and outputs when compared to the $549 year 2016 OPPO UDP-203 4K Blu-ray player. The OPPO UDP-203 had 3 USB ports (2 rear USB 3.0 and 1 front USB 2.0 port). The Magnetar only has one rear USB 3.0 port. The OPPO UDP-203 had 7.1 analog audio outputs and the Magnetar only has 2.0 analog outputs. However to keep cost down the Magnetar has less input and output jacks. But at the very minimum the Magnetar should consider adding at least one more USB port for the front (2 in the rear and 1 in the front would be ideal). Most people can live with 2.0 analog audio outputs that would be used for a A/V receiver like Pioneer that needs 2.0 analog outputs for a second room zone audio or outdoor zone audio. The 1,000Mbps ethernet jack is nice and just like the year 2016 OPPO had (a 10,000Mbps ethernet jack would have raised the cost of the player around $100). RS-232, legacy optical and coaxial are just like the OPPO. The Magnetar has a auto sensing worldwide 100-240 volts 50/60HZ power supply and the construction quality looks very nice. Just like the OPPO UDP-203, the Magnetar supports all the HDR formats like HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision HDR. Plus SACD and DVD-Audio support.

I would like to see a professional review on the Magnetar from either Widescreen Review magazine and/or Sound and Vision magazine. Plus hopefully this will be sold worldwide in Europe and USA. My only complaint currently is that it does not have as many input and output jacks as the year 2016 OPPO UDP-203. But that being said most consumers do not need 7.1 analog outputs and 2.0 analog outputs is just fine. Dolby Atmos and DTS X use HDMI by bitstream. Also I wish there was a front USB 3.0 port on the front since it would make it easy to plug in a flash stick with media. The cool thing with the 3 USB ports on the OPPO is that 3 hard drives can be plugged in at once. The Magnetar UDP800 looks like a real good player.

I guess I’m surprised there aren’t any convection air grills on the back. And no fan, which is good for those sensitive to fan noise.

Appears there’s a heat sink over the gpu chip, but the power supply is a sealed unit. Seems that there should be some way to shed heat buildup somehow.

I like the name better than Reavon. Magnetar is catchy. The unit looks well built but I love how they are hiding the PSU and optical drive with covers.

The optical drive on the Reavon X100 was so cheaply made it felt like a Memorex BD drive. All the cost of that player clearly went into the exterior of the player.

The only way I’m ever spending that much on a disc player is if it’s literally the only option left in the world.

It's not by Archisoft (the "creator of Reavon and Zappiti"), they're just the European distributor. Magnetar is its own China-based brand, distributed by different companies in different regions. There doesn't appear to be a US distributor at this point.

Looks like the GUI is exactly the same as Oppo’s.
Also the buttons look cheap for the price.

Looks like an empty box with nice houses for the drive and PSU.

My "throw in random non functional circuit boards with cool looking components to impress people" theory has another adherent, I see.

My SONY has a few, one of them was just a cracker with "Wi-Fi" written on it with hotsauce. Totally redundant, but totally delicious and I can now stream Spotify.

But I'm not telling anyone how to skip tracks.

And still way too expensive considering how "good" it is with 1080i material.

Looks like they will use high quality hardware which is welcome but the price is way too high.

And possibly Region locked for BD and DVD and no streaming apps?

Happy with my Region Free £50 Toshiba BD player and the 2 Panny UB-820s.
