Default Magnetar UDP900

Our friend Robert just shared these two pictures of a new universal disc player called the MAGNETAR UDP900. This will be the model aimed at those who are connecting to analog audio equipment and not using HDMI, equivalent of the OPPO UDP-205 and the Pioneer UDP-LX800 that was only available abroad.

DISCLAIMER: These pictures do not belong to me. All credit goes to Robert Zohn of Value Electronics.

Sorry the title will not capitalize for some reason.

If the emphasis is on analog audio output, the question is what DAC(s) are they using?

I do see they have a front headphone jack like the Oppo 205.

The OPPO UDP-203 and UDP-205 both had analog 7.1 RCA audio outputs for those that use that feature. Therefore the Magnetar UDP900 is closer to the OPPO players in terms of features.

Well built but the Oppo 205 is still better in a way it has an HDMI input, two USB 3.0 inputs on back. This is definitely going to be a monster player though! I love the headphone jack on the front that the 205 featured. Still love good old wired headphones as the bluetooth ones sound good but I have a really nice wired pair.

I didn’t think it was possible to make something uglier than the first one…

I'm going to assume that there's fake wood panelling on the sides.

I like the look of it but it will be interesting to see the players internals and why they went with that design for the player. The optical drive also looks huge but it's probably no different in size than Oppo 203/205.

They are gonna want close to $3,000 for this player. Easy pass. You can buy a used second hand Oppo 205 in some cases even cheaper than that and it has an HDMI input. The price is definitely inflated on this and the other model.

That could cease to be true after this machine is released.

Good point. Prices always fluctuate with second hand Oppo's.

I love the build quality on this model but the price is overkill. Should be at $1,999.

I'm looking forward to a professional review with objective measurements (ASR or the like).
Yes 3 grands is a lot of money, and so is the built quality and premium parts and construction and universality, including 3D playback support (for AWOW 3D Blu-ray, whenever it comes), SACD.

Of course for roughly half price ($1,600) you can get its smaller brother, the UDP800.

And, if it is still too expensive for the videophiles and audiophiles members of this thread, the Panasonic 9000 is also a serious player well built for roughly $1,000
The reviews are excellent and the owners are happy people.
_____

It is fair game comparing with other players in that range, one to three thousand dollars, like the three mentioned above. And, if eBay is an optional source of shopping for you, you can certainly buy a used Oppo 205 in that high range. That would count too.

There's no doubt that the Magnetar UDP900 has what it takes to elevate it into the biggest tank of them all, in & out. It is the newest super tanker on the block and I bet you can land a plane on it. Figure of speech of course but you know what I mean; it is a mean machine, a battleship, a nuclear submarine, the largest cruiser, the biggest aircraft carrier of the seven navy seas ...

... The $13 Billion USS Gerald R. Ford Magneto 900

I'm a sucker for built quality and this is in fact jaw dropping and that aspect. But for 3k it better play every single 4k disc flawlessly, in which I have my doubts.

Ukraine Impeccable build quality

The internals and premium parts seem to be on par with its built and eventual high performance.
But I agree 100% with you; until we have some serious pro reviews by expert audiophiles and videophiles we are swimming in unknown territories of The Mariana Trench.

For the price they could include an external power supply and dampened feet.
