Default Spider Pig...

Just finished watching the Simpson's movie and was definately worth the purchase. Now if we can just get The Family Guy movie released, life in cartoon world would almost be perfect.

Hehehe, I love how when you let the menu screen sit there for a few seconds Spider-Pig swings by to a chorus singing "Spider Pig, Spider Pig....", then, a few seconds later, he swings by again to the tune of "does whatever a Spider-Pig does"

how much better does this film look? for some reason I didn't think it would make much of a difference since its just a cartoon.

animation very much benefits from hi def releases. crisper black lines, and more vivid colors. i definitely recommend at least renting it, if you are an animation fan, just to see how much better animation looks on hi def.

they even had an hi def trailer on the simpsons movie disc for the Bender's Big Score DVD, and boy was that a tease!

Animated films do look quite amazing in hi-def. Like Ratatoiulle! It looks fantastic.

I plan to get this with XMas money as I know I'm not getting it from anyone. I'll agree though, animated films look great in High Def.

I would NEVER buy the Family Guy film on Blu. Sheesh! It took enough out of me to get the Simpsons movie on blu - that was so much more enjoyable than the FG one!

Dont get me wrong - I love Family Guy - but the movie? Ehhhh - I settled for the DVD.

I thought that the Futurama movie looked funny. The Simpsons Movie was outstanding. Eye candy.

If a movie is digitally transferred to both formats using the exact same codec and the exact same bitrates, they will by definition look the same... pardon the blasphamy here... but, given a transfer which does not have the high bandwidth requirements of say, all the ocean scenes in PotC, HD-DVD does look pretty good. (for those that don't know, water scenes are NOTORIOUS for macro-blocking, and there is not a bit of it to be found in ANY of the pirate movies - at least not that I caught)

Because animation has much lower demands for bandwidth, VC-1 is "good enough" as is the smaller storage medium afforded by HD-DVD. If you don't have that much detail to encode, you can throw more bandwidth at the VC-1, and get a pretty good picture. Microsoft should THANK Disney for NOT trying to put PotC-AWE on a 30Gb VC-1 transfer, because it would have shown ALL the shortcomings of that format!

Hell, I've got a new marketing strategy for Toshiba... Run ads saying: "The look and sound of perfect... as long as you never watch anything but animation"

I think the AVS tier listing has the Simpson in the top tier as a near reference title. I don't think anyone has said this looks "better" in blu, but then again, it doesn't have to... Lord knows that there are plenty of titles which do.

Umm 1st POTC is not on hddvd. 30gig????? Microsoft & Disney, in the same sentence, that is like 2 years in jail.
Just checked The Simpsons disc & it is 37MBps, can hddvd do that????

Even with 37 Mbps encode the videophiles are seriously discussing about EE and Halos which seems to be noticeable in big screen.

37 on the Simpsons? Wow - impressive for animation! Is there anything higher than the 47 I spotted on Pirates 3?
