Question What component of your HT makes you sad/is the best?

The point is that some components of my semi-HT make me really sad. For example my player. I know and Samsung knows that this is transition model...
in other side i love my sony rptv, current and ordered one...
Just want to know if only I feel so, or... Are you happy with your HT and what disappoint you the most?

At this point, the only things I'm disappointed about with my setup are

#1. That my Onkyo 805 was defective and has to be shipped back to the location of original purchase in order to get it exchanged. I figure it will be the second week of January before I get my new one.

#2. That I only currently have a 5.1 speaker setup (I wanted to opt for the extra 2 speakers and stands for them, but it would have cost another $1000. Out of my current budgeting)

#3. The couch being used for viewing... but that belongs to my roommates. They have talked about getting a new one though.

Otherwise, my wall mounted KDL52W3000 Sony Bravia looks gorgeous, my wall mounted Bowers & Wilkins speakers LOOK amazing (can't wait to try them when I get the replacement receiver), my PS3 is the equivalent of an offspring and behaves itself impeccably.

Sony's 'junk' tends to be as a result of their attempt to enforce copyrighted media rather than the quality of their hardware itself. I bought their flagship MD recorder a while back to record my own piano - damn thing wouldn't allow a digital upload to my computer (even though it had digital download over USB) and I had to transfer through the headphone jack into recording software. That annoyance aside, the MZ-N1 was great (and Sony subsequently removed the restriction but I wasn't about to pay another $600 for a new unit).

As for the weak link in my HT, it's definitely the receiver. Pioneer vsx-917vk. It's getting upgraded to a Marantz SR8002 soon.

Let's hear it for a college budget!

Vizio 32 1080i with a Panny 30 and a Philips hts3555 (htib) in the bedroom

Philips 42 1080p with a ps3 and a sammy ht-tx75 (shutup, i like my htibs) in the living room.

I dont see me upgrading anytime soon, I wouldn't mind lossless audio, but the expense of buying the complete setup for it would run me too much money. I'll settle for DD 5.1, DTS, or LPCM 2.0 matrixed to 5.1 for now.

Blissfully happy with the PS3
Happy with the TV - Mitsu WD-73733
Happy with the main speakers - Polk RTi 12's
Satisfied for now with the Receiver and the rest of the speakers.

Unhappy as hell with the HTPC... been working on building it for the past week and a half, been through 2 motherboards, and on the second freakin' video card. - The first MB had Northbridge "issues" and the onboard ATI graphics were atrocious. I tried another high end ATI card, and I was benchmarking framerates around 1.5fps

Took back the ATI card and exchanged it for an Nvidia 8600gt - STILL CRAPPY FRAMERATES on 1080p MKVs Changed out the MB to an ABIT, and went with an evga 8600gts card, the benchmarks are still MUCH lower than my tower with its lowly 7600GT card, but better than the previous settups.

Granted, I made a concious decision to NOT put a really fast processor in the box, because I really don't think processor speed should play that much with video playback, it should most all be handled by the GPU, My tower, with wicked high benchmarks has an intel duo-core overclocked to 2.5GHz and the 7600gt board, while the HTPC has an athlon duo-core at 1.9GHz and the 8600gts board.

The HTPC plays 720p MKVs fine, it only craps out on 1080p MKVs, while the tower plays both without a hitch... I guess the next step is to get a faster processor

Two words - Sony Audio

Sony audio is the epitome of mediocrity.

When I replaced my Sony SA-VF700ED Speakers last month with the Polk RTi-12s the difference was mind blowing

Why marantz? It has same spec as onky sr875, but more expensive and lacks 1080p upscaling.

Outrageously, deliriously happy with: the Pioneer plasma, Yamaha 3800, & Axiom 5.x speakers.

Relatively pleased with: PS3 which will move up to the category above if and when they provide at least internal DTS HD MA decoding.

Still waiting on: new sub.

Considering: Either putting my trusty old Yamaha M-65 back into the setup to drive the M80s or purchasing something like an Emotiva RPA-1 to do the same as I think the M80s would really benefit from a separate amp with just a bit more headroom.

ATI sux nowaday. gt8600 also too slow in DX10 and playing back hd video. try newest gt8800 ($200) or gts(512 mb, not 640) if your motherboard alows.

yep, the new card is the 8600gts, but only 256ddr3... its funny how it doesn't perform as well as my old 7600gt which also has 256ddr3... I wonder if it is because they had to may "allowances" for DX10 and freakin' vista, which makes them run poorly with XP-MCE and DX9? I may have to cannibalize my tower

I have pretty much weeded out all the components I was unhappy with, and I don't plan on upgrading anything for quite a while, but I will say that every time I buy a new device, the next, new and important spec comes along and can make me regret a purchase. This whole 120HZ 5:5 thing really has pissed me off the most as I just bought my TV.

The only components that I'm not completely happy with now are my speakers. I have a 5.1 set-up using Boston Acoustics speakers. Not terrible but it could be better. Eventually I plan to go 7.1 with Definitive speakers and move my BA's into the living room.

My 3-year old Sony receiver does not support HDMI. The Denon I want to replace it with is $1200.

The only part of my setup I am really not happy with right now are my speakers. They are one of the very first Yamaha 5.1 speaker setups, got it about 10 years ago. It's seriously lagging behind the rest of my setup. Thinking about getting Polk or Klipsch speakers next year.

None of what I have makes me unhappy. If your home theater hardware is making you sad, then you lead a blessed life

What does make me somewhat sad is that I am soon going to replace my trusty Sony BD-S1. It is a true horse as a standalone. Keeping FW current, I have never had a single issue with any BD I have fed it. I blame Sony for not being forward thinking enough to allow my beloved BD player to support all lossless audio formats.
