Red face What I do not understand about HD-DVD supporters

Let's assume that Toshiba makes an announcement stating that they give up, they will join blu-ray association and all hd-dvd supporting movie studios agree to support blu-ray. I still can not imagine what negative point any reasonable hd-dvd supporter may claim about this scenario.

Basically we would all be able to buy hd movies regardless of the studio releasing them, both player and disc prices would fall down (as low as hd-hd dvd prices would if they win the format war) and mass market adaptation would be realized. In addition the new disc format would have 25 gb more storage space which is not worse than not having it, would have a cooler name and a scratch resistant surface.

All advantages claimed by hd-dvd camp stem from the context created by the format war. If we imagine a sole victorious format, we are better of if it is blu-ray than hd-dvd. At that point, hd-dvd has no plus.

Ah of course, the discs and players already bought bu hd-dvd owners... Well then they are not defending the format's superiority but their own benefits.
