Quote:
From the Academy Award-winning Coen Brothers, The Man Who Wasn’t There is a dark and twisted film noir set in a small 1949 California town. This is the story of a seemingly simple barber (Billy Bob Thornton), who turns to corruption and revenge to escape his achingly dull life. Blackmail is his opportunity to be more than a man that no one notices. But in the tradition of classic noir, nothing goes as planned and nothing is as it seems. As the barber’s plot unravels, the delicious surprises, stunning revelations and just plain strange occurrences will disturb and delight you long after the film has ended. Settle in the chair and listen.

I'm not a huge Coen bros fan, but this is an excellent film. Nice extras, too.

At last!

The question is, which Universal will be bringing this disc to us -- the old Universal or the new Universal?

Hopefully it's not some ancient master that's been lying around for a decade.

Awesome! I had the French release bought a few months ago (I clicked "confirm order" and everything), but just to be safe I decided to double check the region coding and I'm glad I did, because if I hadn't I wouldn’t have known it had forced French subs. I cancelled my order real quick once I figured that out. Glad to see it's finally getting a release stateside.

I was on the fence about getting the French release, glad I held off. Hopefully this release will look ok!

Yes!

Possibly my favorite Coen Brothers film. Although The Big Lebowski's brilliance is hard to ignore.

Anyways, love this film and I am so glad we are finally getting it on Blu-ray here in the U.S.

Way overdue.

Now all I need is The Ladykillers (screw you, it's funny) to have a complete HD Coen Collection.

A wonderful and very underrated Coen Brothers film. I've always considered this to be the final film of their "golden period". They've made great films since but a lot of disappointments too, but everything from Blood Simple to Man Who Wasn't There is, for me, brilliant.

Well, it's not listed as a remaster, so...

I've always found them to be in a 2:1 ratio of hit to miss. Still have to see Miller's Crossing for some reason though.
Didn't like Blood Simple; loved Raising Arizona and Barton Fink.
Loathed Hudsucker Proxy; loved Fargo and Big Lebowski.
Loved O Brother and Man Who Wasn't There; found Ladykillers a tad lackluster.
Really liked Intolerable Cruelty and No Country; didn't go for Burn After Reading.
Didn't like Serious Man; adored True Grit and Llewyn Davis.

Their segment of Paris, je t'aime is quite good as well.

I'm a bit more forgiving than you. I liked everything from Blood Simple to Man Who Wasn't There, although I particularly enjoyed Hudsucker, Lebowski, Fargo and O Brother. Miller's Crossing is brilliant too, it gets better with each viewing.

Since then, I didn't like Intolerable Cruelty or Burn After Reading, and Ladykillers is hit or miss. Serious Man has its moments but is a bit of a put-off at times too. I've liked their last two films, though they don't seem to have that magic that their earlier films had for me. They seem to have moved away from that colourful, quirky style of their earlier films that made me love them to begin with.
