Default Fast & Furious female-led spin-off lands Marvel writers

Quote:
As the Fast & Furious franchise continues to expand fast and furiously, the female-fronted Fast & Furious spinoff — one of three spinoffs in development — is welcoming some new members to their family. Series staple Vin Diesel announced a trio of new screenwriters who are tackling the project on his Instagram last night (via Comic Book).

“As you know, there are three new spin offs [sic] that We have promised Universal… well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017, and you can tell by the smile on Samantha’s face it was VERY exciting. Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY,” he wrote in the post.

The three new writers listed by Diesel who will work on the upcoming spin-off have worked on some of Marvel’s big-budget adventures, which includes Nicole Perlman (Captain Marvel, Black Widow), Lindsey Beer (Silver Sable), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Silver Sable). The film will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2).

The franchise is also working on Hobbs and Shaw, focusing on the characters portrayed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham, which is filming now. The film will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2).

Anybody else getting sick of the whole new "Girl Power!!" fronted movie news when we all know it's gonna fall into a cliche ridden movie with tropes. Why can't we just have movies with a more even gender representation and be "equal" instead of going from one gender dominated movie to another full of tropes.

Tbh, i always felt certain movies did better leaning to one or the other. Rom coms for example are dominated by female led casts because of the demographics that watch certain genres.

I have no problem with an all-female team. My problem is if you were to do an all-male team, then all of the SJWs would cry at the lack of female representation. Very hypocritical.

Well, i think there's a saying out there and well, people will always find something to complain about when that's all they look for. A "crusade" to always fight in.

Rodriguez has been very vocal about her role in the franchise and threatened to walk many times during the last production so the heads finally caved and hence the all female lead story. I have no issue with this at all just as long as they don't title it Fast Females..... (see what I did there.)

Why not, I don't know, stop caring or making it about gender at all? People don't care about quotas or "representation" of immutable traits being used for marketing and virtue signaling. And they definitely don't care about taking existing formula/character/IP and change genders for the sake of diversity™. They'll rightfully criticize and not pay for it.

To be fair, this is just more of a cash grab to squeeze every last red cent from this franchise and hoping on a current fad in Hollywood nowadays seems to be another way of revenue.
But how about they finish the franchise they have first before talking spinoffs.
Also, Vin Diesel was reportedly upset with the Hobbs & Shaw movie and yet he's signing off on this one? Confusing.
Then there's the Neal Moritz lawsuit about said spinoffs.
Finally, they hired writers from Marvel, so going by that little tibbit, it's gonna be assembly line style mediocrity anyway.

I wished they would have let her walk she’s useless to the story all she is is Dom’s girl. They should have kept her dead and not bring her back.

I'm waiting for the all-male remakes of Steel Magnolias, The Joy Luck Club and The Women.

Any "ism" sucks, and it doesn't make it better when it's aimed against men. Two wrongs do NOT make a right.

Nope. It'll probably be a spinoff with Ludacis and Tyrese.
Then a spinoff with Kurt Russell, then a spinoff with the Shaws...perhaps a Han prequel.

If they're not making it about gender then they wouldn't have an all female cast but like others have mentioned, it is part of a trend currently in Hollywood they're riding. I personally don't have a problem with an all female movie just as i don't with an all male movie. I just don't like the idea because i feel like all the marketing will shove gender into our faces for this like they're doing with other things as a trend.

Yeah totally agree. Cash grab BUT remains to be seen if it's gonna even be successful tbh. I actually hope they have a good movie and if so i'll support it with positive word of mouth. I just hope it isn't gonna be a snooze fest.

One movie i actually wanted to watch was "Expendabelles" with the all female cast and talent. I felt that had a really grest premise but alas, not seen anything for it yet.

My only problem is they're milking this franchise a bit too much. We don't need spin-offs.

Well, this is a superhero franchise, so being part of a shared universe makes sense.
