Paramount Zodiac (2007) (Director's Cut)

Zodiac Blu-ray Jan 1, 2013

For those with questions about the differences between the US (Paramount) release and the International (Warner) releases (info provided by blu-ray_girl_fan)

Quote:
US (Paramount) Blu-ray -- currently Out-of-Print (OOP):
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Zodiac-Blu-ray/458/

International (Warner) Blu-ray:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Zodiac-Blu-ray/1691/

--------------------------------------------------

US 2-Disc Specs:
Video codec: MPEG-4 AVC (Bitrate = 38.11 Mbps)
Video resolution: 1080p
Aspect ratio: 2.40:1
Original aspect ratio: 2.39:1

English: Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit)

Subtitles: English, English SDH, French, Spanish

All Extras in HD (except for 480i/p Previsualization sequences)

International 1-Disc Specs:
Video codec: VC-1 (Bitrate = 19.81 Mbps)
Video resolution: 1080p
Aspect ratio: 2.40:1
Original aspect ratio: 2.39:1

English: Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps)
French: Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps)
German: Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps)
Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps)
Italian: Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps)
Japanese: Dolby Digital 5.1

Subtitles: English, English SDH, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, German, Italian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish

The movie and the extras are all encoded on the same disc. One of the longer featurettes/docs, "Zodiac Deciphered", is not in HD. Early printings had a slipcover.

I want to get this in the near future but for some reason it is very hard to find. Futureshop locally hasnt had it in ages, same with Amazon.ca and there are only like 3 copies on Ebay and they are all too expensive. What gives...

Maybe its out of print or something. Thats all i can think of for why it wouldn't be readily available.

I was going to post the same thing a few days ago, but I didn't, because I wasn't sure if it was worth a thread.
The price on Amazon.com has risen to $30.49!
I bought it about 2 months ago for about $14.99 off Amazon.
Not one store near me carries it, besides I found one at a Barns N' Noble for like 40 dollars, which was a complete rip-off.
I think it's going out of print?
I also checked Best Buy stores all over the U.S on their website out of curiosity, no one has it. (I mean not everywhere, but in the big cities)

Maybe there is a re-release coming soon and they are phasing out this version.

There is no real reason to though. The film is only three years old and this release was a stellar one from what I have read (great PQ and loaded special features). I'm guessing it's just one of those titles that just isn't readily available for some strange reason.

You might wanna try Best Buy. My local store had 1 lone copy sitting discretely in the shelf when I picked it up last year. I agree that it's rather hard to find. No one really seems to carry it.

It's "Region Free" and will play fine in any Blu-ray player or PS3.

AND, it is not in PAL. They are different releases though. The US one by Paramount, and Internationally by Warner Brothers.

The US release has the film on 2 discs, (1 for just the extras)
The International has the film and extras on 1 disc.

The US release has lossless TrueHD audio
The International has plain Dolby Digital audio

The US one has a much higher bitrate as a result of being on 2 discs. I picked up the US one from an Amazon seller for about $16-17 delivered.

I'm glad I kept my old HD-DVD copy of the directors cut. Still have my old Toshiba XA2 in the video rack. It doesn't get much play though.

I'm just going to bite the bullet and order the UK version. It's impossible here in Canada to find it in stores. And when I do find it, in store or online, it's far more then what I want to pay.

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...ac_blu-ray.htm

While there is a difference, it's too small for me to be bothered by it. And yes, their Japanese release is identical to the UK's one. According to DVDBeaver, special features on both editions are in HD. The UK version will cost me less then 15 Canadian and since I'll be selling my Zodiac directors cut DVD, I'll essentially be upgrading to BD at no cost.

Trust me, the price will go down eventually. Paramount blu prices have gotten much cheaper lately on a lot of catalog titles!
