Image Entertainment have scheduled five new titles for Blu-ray.

December 4:
1,000 Places to See Before You Die: 50 Favorite Destinations
50 Paintings from The Museum of Modern Art
The Amazing World of National Geographic
Art Wolfe: Vanishing Act

January 15:
Breaker Morant

Image Entertainment are the distributor of the Discovery Atlas discs (Australia Revealed, Brazil Revealed, China Revealed, Italy Revealed) released in January this year.

Image Entertainment was founded during the Laserdisc era and took advantage of the Laserdisc superiority to get more features and better audio and video quality than VHS and Beta.

It is interesting to see that the company web site only list Blu-ray versions of the new titles and no HD-DVD titles. The Discovery Atlas discs and three music discs released in 2006 is on HD-DVD.

http://www.image-entertainment.com/s...=&day2=&year2=

Looks like Image Entertainment have shifted from HD-DVD exclusive (2006), to neutral (January 2007) and are now shifting to Blu-ray exclusive.

These are actually GalleryPlayer titles. When I contacted them regarding this back in July, they said it was GalleryPlayer's decision about which format they wanted their stuff on, and that Image was definitely supporting both formats. Has something changed since then? These titles were always Blu-ray exclusive.

Had missed that news.

The new thing might be that one more title is up on the schedule for Blu-ray, January 15: Breaker Morant.
Another thing is that no new titles for HD-DVD has been added to their release schedule since January 30, 2007.

i think what they are doing is seeing how many copies they can sell on Blu-Ray and if they are satisfied they might go blu-ray exclusive if they are not satisfied then they will go neutral

Breaker Morant is also the first feature film released in HighDef by Image.

They first release three music discs exclusively to HD-DVD.
In January 30 they released four special interest discs to both Blu-ray and HD-DVD.
They have now scheduled five discs (four special interest and one feature movie) exclusively for Blu-ray.

Image Entertainment have put yet another feature movie on the release schedule and have now 6 titles scheduled for Blu-ray.

Special Interest:
The Amazing World of National Geographic
Art Wolfe: Vanishing Act
50 Paintings from The Museum of Modern Art
1,000 Places to See Before You Die: 50 Favorite Destinations

Feature movies:
Suburban Girl
Breaker Morant

Both Suburban Girl and 'Breaker' Morant have over 8 on IMDB:s ratings.

I live documentaries about nature, therefore I will purchase, 1,000 Places to See Before You Die: 50 Favorite Destinations, The Amazing World of National Geographic, and Art Wolfe: Vanishing Act.

I recently wrote the following to Image Entertainment...

Quote:
Any chance of seeing the following released on Blu-ray anytime soon...

Born American (1986)
Quiet Cool (1986)
Alone in the Dark (1982)
Night Screams (1987)
Deadtime Stories (1986)
Death Before Dishonor (1987)
Wanted Dead or Alive (1986)
Mountaintop Motel Massacre (1986)
The Initiation (1984)
Here was the reply I received...

Quote:
Hi Wes,

From the list below there are only 4 films we have the rights to:

Death Before Dishonor (1987)
Wanted Dead or Alive (1986)
Mountaintop Motel Massacre (1986)
The Initiation (1984)

…and for them there are no plans to release a blu-ray at this time.

Thank you.
Interesting that they no longer control the early New Line stuff (Alone in the Dark, Quiet Cool). I wonder if those reverted back to Columbia/Sony (who released both on VHS) or with original theatrical distributor, New Line Cinema/Warner Bros?

And... a little birdie just told me that Alone in the Dark has (unfortunately) reverted back to Warner Bros. Damn.

Guess that means they have Quiet Cool also.

I love 80's movies, but I'm not going to lie, I've never heard of any of the titles you mentioned except for Alone In The Dark.

Quiet Cool and Wanted Dead or Alive are great little action flicks. Very fun if you like cheesy 80s action.
