Smile Digital image or HD image? Beyonce Concert

I was at the Beyonce concert in the O2 Arena, Dublin, last night and it was an incredible gig!

On the back wall behind the stage, there was a screen the size of a cinema screen.. Huge! The clarity was out of this world! I have never seen a screen that size that has such a perfect picture! Better than the qualify of any cinema screen I have seen.

Would anyone know if this screen was a digital projected image or a HD projected image? Here in Ireland we are due to see movies on digital screens very shortly. If this is what we are to expect in terms of quality then it is going to be great!

Beyonce's 'I am..' tour has gone all over the world so some of you might know what I am talking about!

I can't say what you saw, but if you are really from Ireland wouldn't you write it Eireland? The digital projection theaters I have seen I can see the image pixelation but the primary improvement is just general image sharpness. I don't think the theaters I visit use 4K yet so I don't know what resolution mine have. However the kids running the projectors now have the digital projection as an excuse to not be able to focus the old film style displays, which can be extremely annoying. None of the analog films have a sharp image from top to bottom and sometimes none of it is in focus, they could care less, which makes it hard to be sympathetic to their slow demise.

Eireland!? Haha no no, Ireland is just fine.

Perhaps this was a 4k image on a 4k screen? It really was mind-blowing!

Also mayhbe because you wern't focusing on it entirely (as other things where grabbing your attention), you wern't noticing its flaws. Most films are only made in 2k so 4k projectors for the most part will only provide improvements if the projector outside resolution is better. In all honesty though, 35mm presentations done right can blow away anything I have seen digitally. Digital however is much more consistent.

FYI, a HD projected image is a digitally projected image, so the question is a bit redundant, though I believe I understood what you where asking.

Any screen you see in stadiums you're so far away from that anything will look great because they really pump the lumens/wattage at it. Most screens are actually made up of little LED clusters

This has the advantage of being able to make screens as part of almost anything in any shape you want like in this video, where the whole structure is a screen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLjBRm_NvgA

if you look behind the guitarist (Tak Matsumoto, the only non-native English speaker to have his own signature Les Paul. That's an honor shared by BB King, Joe Perry, Slash and more for the uninitiated)

Each cell is made up of 3 colors, just like your TV at home, and at the distances the audience views them at, they meld into cohesive images. They're also really robust to transport and easy to replace so they take the rigors of the road really well.
