If you know anyone in the market for a Blu-Ray player, DO NOT LET THEM BUY THIS PLAYER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!!!!!! I have waited time after time, on hold again and again, person after person that refuses to help. I am honestly on hold with Samsung ECR department right now. I called to ***** about it not playing POTC3 and told them I wanted Samsung to send me the BDP1400 immediately. I was transferred to the Exchange Department where I was told they would "swap" me players as long as Technical Support deemed my player "defective or unusable". Tech Support deemed that my player is unusable on new titles and he put that in his notes. I am now on hold again today to go back to the Exchange department. Total time on the phone with Samsung so far is 1 hour and 20 minutes. And we arent close to being done yet. Please, if you love or like someone, dont let them walk down this same path. They would be better off buying HD-DVDs than this player.

I have been told they will, which obviously means they wont, but yes I am still on hold. As an added bonus, I was just transferred again and disconnected for the 5th time in 1 hour and 27 minutes and counting. And yes again, you must go through the whole process each time you call back.

After all that, PLUS an email to their offices (typed while on hold no less) I was told that I will have an answer by wednesday. But if I dont hear from them, I should give them a call. Nice, huh? Plus, I just saw that the 1400 is on sale at Sears for $399.99. I hope when I finally do snap there are no animals harmed in my rage.

There's some threads indicating that the BD-P1400 can be had for $299 at Circuit City and Best Buy this week. |

So even if I get them to trade me the BDP-1200 for the BDP-1400 is it even an upgrade? Does anyone know if the 1400 is that much more superior? Does it have any firmware issues?

They got rid of the much covetted HDQ chip in the BDp1200 and instead, added Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby True HD. I'm sure each of us as wads of SD dvd's that would look better with the HQV chip, now the upconversion chip is unknown. Its not even the lesser Faroudja. So, do u get a player with the HQV? or a player with the better sound, for movies that are actually released with Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby True HD sound. I have a 1200 and it had some serious video issues. I sent a letter to the Office of The President and they offered a replacement unit. I've got one month to see if theres anything wrong with it. THey did offer the 1400, they could get me one right away. I refused, said I wanted the 1200, because of the HQV chip. Last edited by itsfatboy; 12-16-2007 at 04:15 PM. |

Well I waited until wednesday, and guess what??? Thats right, noone contacted me. So I wait 6 days to call them and to my shock they have been waiting for my player to show up. Apparently, they wont send me the 1400 until I send in my 1200. I'm on hold with them right now. Not getting answers. Samsung sucks enough to push someone to go HD-DVD. Way to turn someone away from Blu-Ray.

I am fairly new to the Blu-ray game. I just bought my BD-p1200 about 3 months ago and I have had no problems other then Samsumg taking there time on getting the firmware upgrades out. Once I get a firmware that works no issues with the player. Maybe I actually got a good 1200, unlike you all who have seem to have lemons. I have been very happy with my player.

But the slowness with the firmware upgrades is the problem, and it's a big one. Currently, there are movies that have been out for several weeks that either cannot be played at all, or only can under odd circumstances (Like Live Free or Die Hard, which only seem to work when loading another disc up first). It's ridiculous that we have to wait that long to be able to watch these movies. Particularly when no other brand of players seem to take anywhere near this long to update their firmware (and some don't even need the same amount of firmware upgrades to get various discs to work). Perhaps you just haven't purchased or rented any of the movies that are currently having problems, in which case you wouldn't notice the issues that most of us are having. Therefore, your experience SEEMS positive, but just wait until you do buy a movie that you can't use for a good month or so because the firmware isn't up to date and is not yet available. Let's see how great you think the player is at that point. |

I was able to play Live Free or Die Hard today (got it for Christmas), but just before I played Die Hard I was watching Rise of the Silver Surfer. I updated my firmware from the Samsung site with an update that looked like the Oct update, but was dated Dec 11th or 12th. Today was the first chance I got to view it. Does this mean the update didn't work and the only way Die Hard will play is when I play another another first? How odd. Thanks for the notice. |

Yes, that is correct. We are all still waiting for the much anticipated next FW version that will allow LFODH, POTC3 and other titles to play on the 1200. The FW version that is on the site at the moment is dated Dwc 11, 2007 (build date) but in fact it appears to be no different from the Oct 29, 2007 V2.0.
