Default Gazwrx - The Films Of Jeff Keen (1960)

Set to be released on February 23 by BFI.

Courtesy of Michael B.
Quote:
UK 1960-2000; Colour; around 9 hours

Jeff Keen began making films at the age of 37 when his art school film society needed things to show. And so began over forty years of unique, imaginative, irrepresible filmmaking. This release contains over 9 hours of films and videos by the visionary filmmaker from his 60s beatnik movies to the apocalyptic beauty of his multi-layered videos of the 90s - a criminally overdue opportunity to explore the alternative cinematic world of one of Britain's most important experimental filmmakers

I've just removed this from my collection and I didn't realise that it actually counted as 44 films. I've gone from 306 to 262! I didn't notice my collection increase by 44 when I added it... oh well.

I watched part of the collection but it's not something that has much replay value for me.

It's been OOP for years, IIRC. I've certainly never seen a copy in person, only ever the DVD edition (once) in Fopp at some point.

Ahh figured as much, just thought because the DVD is still available maybe it was something they were still releasing.

Sent them an email anyway.

Is there much difference between the DVD and blu ray?

I lucked into finding a copy in Cex last year for £15-20. Box was a bit battered but I picked it up regardless.

Fwiw it's a 1xBD, 2xDVD set with a 96 page booklet as opposed to the 4xDVD set with a cut-down 44 page booklet. I think 2 of the DVDs are common to both sets (one has 8mm works on, the other has video works). The BD is 16mm works and Super 8mm works (HD transfers) - I imagine this is split into 2 DVDs in the DVD only set.

The special features are split over the DVDs common to both sets

Blu-ray was marketed as a limited edition and went out of print within a couple of years of release.

It contained one blu-ray (16mm and Super 8mm) while the 8mm and video works where included on two DVDs.

The contents of the blu-ray are spread over two discs in the DVD edition.

EDIT: Presumably the difference re blu-ray and DVD will be genuine HD visuals and no PAL speed up. The sound is generally lo-fi and being on blu-ray won't make much if any difference.

If you click on "collections" on this site's Gazwrx blu-ray page, there's a member who "wants to sell".
