audio set up questions

okay...i posted the other night about set up questions.....and i followed you guys' advice.

blu-ray player is connected to the tv w/ hdmi...pic is great, and sound is coming out of the tv.

then i connect the blu-ray to my receiver via 5.1 multi ch output. my question is the center and subwf are colored black (monoaural)....the guy at BB they dont sell the black cables and said the regular stereo cords will work (white / red), so i tried this. I put spiderman 3 in, and sounds is only coming out of the tv and my left and right speakers. The center, subwf, and left/right surrounds speakers are not working. Any advice here? I realize I might need the monoarual cables, but why would that affect the surrounds?
