Default 4K UHDs in Canada or the increasing lack there of

I'm noticing more and more lately living in Canada that almost every retailer is quickly reducing the number of new titles for sale. The latest being Cliffhanger. Previous Sony releases have been available but not this one. Neither Bad Times at the El Royale, Hereditary and the odd delay of Venom. Sunrise and Bestbuy have no answer why. And walmart is hit and miss depending on location. Online is worthless. Amazon.ca sometimes will have something but charge a mint as an import. Makes me wish I lived near the border.

Anyone have any recommendations in Toronto?

If the new NAFTA goes through you won't have import fees on movie orders anymore really, so that should help. It's definitely a bummer to see so many skipping Canada though.

Many LG titles aren’t getting releases in Canada because of E One. Oddly enough Halloween did with the American slip too. Some Sony titles are late arriving but they do show up, Step Brothers and Quick and the Dead didn’t. Like it or not if you want certain 4K’s and BD’s you’ll have to import. When I look at my 4K Collection I see a lot of imported titles. It sucks but it’s the way she goes.

How can you pick out the right movie from the shelf without the French title on the packaging?!?!?!

I call over my French neighbors. Sometimes they bring poutine and Labatt beer.

I hate those bilingual cases so much lol

I'm fortunate I live near the border. I love the selection in the nearest Best Buy down south, not to mention getting titles that we don't get here (Hook 4K as an example) as well as Target exclusives.

The only stores in my city that's decently stocked with 4K titles is Best Buy and Sunrise Records. I mostly go to Best Buy since they have decent prices. Sunrise is just overpriced. I also shop on amazon.ca but only when they have sales.

The worst offender is Wal-Mart. Their shelves are bare, barely any 4K titles out, even for new releases.

I never like to hear this type of news regarding packaged media, but less than 5 titles in my collection are from Canada, the rest have bene purchased from the US largely due to the price difference and because it's difficult enough for me to read the spines with just English text let alone English & French in an even smaller font.

SV, do you have any link(s) to this info. That would be good news for those who are importing disc based movies.

In the newly-concluded USMCA, Canada agreed to raise its de minimis level from C$20 to C$40 for taxes and provide for duty-free shipments up to C$150.
Some Canadians are actually whining about it because they think imports mean less money for Canadian business.

I've imported a handful over the past year but was finding that with the exchange, duties and shipping it was pretty expensive. If the duties were removed I would just order everything from the states. Let's hope.
