I like what I'm reading about with the ps3. It looks like Sony suprised us yet again by delivering a working ps3 so that we all can see what the machine looks like turned on. I think that Sony has created a machine that things that we are expecting and will like. Although the video was short, it's nice to see that the ps3 interface for the main menu has been cleaned up and looks better then the boring blue that I did see a while back. The controller looks real nice although we dont' have an offical name for it yet. Do the blue and green lights represent stand by and power on mode? The ps3 has the same kind of glossy plastic that the psp is in. The ps2 had more of a cheap feel so it's nice to see that the ps3 has the glossy look, but then again the wii does to. The only thing that wasn't in the video was a demo showing how the virtual memory card worked as that is the only lose end that is still not fully solved, but with a month to go, I think that Sony will explain that in time and I think that for the price, we are getting a great machine that will be enjoyed for six years.

gamekid, you keep asking about the memory card interface. i think we all will say i don't know. however, most likely it will be some sort of memory card reader that attaches to the usb port. as for saving games, the HD will most likely emulate a memory card. otherwise, we'd all have to buy the memory card reader.

Look, I'm not trying to start a catfight here. I'm just wondering how the virtual memory card thing works. I know that no one here knows anything about it. Sony hasn't really explained it yet, but I know that they will. A big thanks for the video showing off a working ps3. Really cool stuff.

Ack! Looks like the remote is Bluetooth. I'll be very sad if there's no IR interface for the PS3 (even as an attachable addon pls). My Harmony remote is crying.
By the by, looks like the mag took down that video? Quote:

That remote is for sale on December 7th.
I'm sure some enterprising company or even Logitech will release a USB device that acts as an IR receiver then selling you the downloadable code for it. fuad |

I wanted to add that the images of the card adapter and remote are on ps3land.com for the first time. It's not know if the remote can be used for anything else.

It doesn't look like it has any other buttons you can use it for other Sony products, like a Bravia TV for example. So it could be a strictly Bluetooth device. fuad |

It looks like the remote will be strictly limited to the ps3 console. There's probably a good reason why Sony doesn't want us to use the remote for other things.

I had a feeling that a remote control device would be bluetooth, and I'm glad - it means you don't need line of sight to control the PS3. Not that I'm saying you should hide it away, but if it is in a cabinet, you don't need the door open to control it! Yes, it's a pain for multi function remotes, but I don't use one, so no big deal.
Great news! If the prices convert well then these peripherals will be reasonably priced too. I'll buy them both though, but once I've copied my PS2 games over I could always sell that device on... |
