Default Playstation magazine blu-ray reviews FAIL

Just got the latest issue of PSmag and they've reviewed a few movies giving them HORRIBLE rating. Cars on blu... a 3/5 as a movie special features 3/5. Have they even watched the movie?! Cars was awesome!! anyway, next...
Pirates 3 on blu. as a movie 1/5!!!!! and features 2/5. I don't know what they're smoking over in the review dept. but they need to be slapped back to reality.

In their defence, Cars is the worst of the Pixar movies IMO, but it's still way better than a lot of other garbage out there.

And Pirates 3 is a terrible movie, and didn't the disc not even have a commentary on it?

I've always been shocked at what they have been rating their blu-ray movies. It never makes sense but these are gaming magazines. The same thing happened with DVD, the reviewers of game magazines (print and online) knew nothing about the format and would come up with all sorts of inacuracies in their reviews.

guess so. I enjoyed both movies far beyond what they rated. I think someone else, like myself, needs to work there for them and stop knocking blu-ray.

really? I thought ratatouille was the worst of them. I know everyone keeps saying it's the best, but I'm sure someone out there will agree with me

I agree with you, Ratatouille is one of the best pixar movies. I think one minor problem with it though, is that you need to watch it more than once to truly see how good it is. There are a lot of tiny details in that movie that make it truly unique and one of the best movies they have ever created. Oddly enough, the new OPM magazine also gave ratatouille a horrible review, I believe it was either 2 or 3 out of 5 which is utterly ridiculous. Then again, those who run OPM used to run PSM, and if you have read PSM before you would know it's a bunch of nerdy guides that are short on intelligence and prefer perverted corny movies.

Nobody really cares about reviews when it comes to movies. Look at National Treasure 2, horrible reviews but still a huge box office hit. Then there's spiderman 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3...

Even consider what's nominated for best picture at the Oscar's this year. When i saw the list I was like WTH? Movie critics, they're dumb and irrelevant.

Last month they rated Ratatouille 2/5 and Bad Santa 4.5/5. I wouldn't trust any of their reviews, for movies or videogames.

You have to remember the target demographic of the magazine's readership. On a console videogame magazine it's males aged 12 to 24. How many 15 year old males would give Cars a top notch rating as a movie? Not many I imagine.

If it's the Playstation mag I think you're talking about you should follow the ownership trail. They have been very dubious and agenda ridden before.

Since this is turning into a Pixar topic, I'm going to say Finding Nemo was there best. Cars the worst. Even though I have it.

Lets put it another way, those critics are full of sh*t and don't know anything. Everyone has their own taste in movies so it would be best for critics to shut their mouths

When they give Cars a 3/5 and Pirates a 1/5, are they reviewing the movies, in and of themselves (regardless of what format they are on), or is that meant to be a review of the Picture Quality that the Blu-Ray transfer offers?

If they are using those ratings for the PQ, then they have a serious problem.

If it's just their opinions of the movies, while I don't agree with them, at least it's a more subjective aspect. Anyone with a half-decent HDTV set up and an HDMI cable connecting the PS3 to the TV should be able to see the clearly better PQ that the Blu-Ray transfers of these movies have to offer.

Cars was pretty bad.

Ratatouille I haven't seen; it's got way too high a cutesy-poo factor attached for me to mess with.

Incredibles and Monsters, Inc. are the ones I'd like. An Nemo, worth a re-buy.

Cars was the worst (however I still think cars is a lot better than many movies), but I would have to argue that Toy Story was their best, with the Incredibles coming in a very close second.
