Default PS3 & 7.1 Onkyo Receiver
My Onkyo receiver is the R550 that comes with the HT-SR800 package. I don't have the budget for a 605 or 805 right now, so I'm stuck with this guy.

Apparently the HDMI inputs only act as passthrough and it will not decode HDMI signals. So, from what I understand, I'm limited to digital optical out from my PS3.

According to the PS3, I can only get Dolby5.1 and DTS5.1 over optical, in addition to 2ch PCM.

Here's whats confusing the hell out of me. The receiver is 7.1 capable, but if it only accepts 5.1 over optical, how on earth can I take advantage of 7.1 audio?
