Default how good is the ps3's PIP blu-ray function ??

Quote:
When the picture-in-picture turns on, the audio switches from 5.1 surround sound to mere two-channel stereo setup. Had the windows both included audio this would make sense, but the audio switches to 2.0 even if the material in the smaller window has no audio track at all. For instance, when the smaller window includes sketches alone, the receiver switches to two-channel audio and goes dead quiet. This may simply be a PlayStation 3 issue, as switching between LPCM and Bitstream made no difference, but we don't have the necessary Panasonic Blu-ray player (DMP-BD30) to test the performance of Profile 1.1 on another 1.1-equipped Blu-ray player. Ideally a non-PS3 Blu-ray player will enable switching audio streams, but since Resident Evil: Extinction is one of the first Profile 1.1 movies to release, we have a suspicion it was more of a Sony oversight than anything else.
never cared about it but i thoguht you might wanna know

So, 5.1 is important when watching the pip commentary? It probably shuts off so the commentary can be heard better.

I think PIP is lame anyways, annoying.

Agreed. Are you trying to watch the movie or are you trying to watch what ever is in the second picture? If your watching the PiP version, I would assume you're interested what they're saying as well.

People are always going to complain I guess...

No need to worry!

If you're concerned whether hd followers(I mean duds) would rampage over the fact pip delivers only stereo, well chill out. Just read the review for Resident Evil extintion in this site, and you'll find a happy surprise. 5.1 dolby trueHD after pip is selected . I'm planning on getting this movie as soon as possible to check on this feature, but just only as the extra bluray deserves. It's just an extra worthy of bluray. Just that.

How PiP audio is handled isn't necessarily down to the player but how the disk content was designed.
