Default how many would u replace

i have about 500 dvd's & i'd couldn't imagine replacing them all with bd's. there's probably a handfull i'd actually replace because most of them are crap. so would you replace your entire collection or just some of them.

The ones that have fantastic PQ, fantastic AQ, and are fantastic movies. For example, I have rebought Pirates 1-3, Spiderman 1-3, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Black Hawk Down, and the Patriot on Blu-Ray.

But I wholeheartedly doubt I would replace all 180 of my DVDs if their equals came out on Blu.

I replace over time, in general.

I doubt I'll be able to replace much of my Anime, but that's in large part because Geneon / Pioneer is dropping that effort, and well, I doubt the source material is such to benefit much from it.

I'd like to replace whatever movie I could, if I don't regret the original purchase anyway.

Blade 1, Blood Bath in high-def would be nice. So very very nice.

My DVD collection was at about 400 before I stopped buying them sometime in the summer of '06 (knowing full well I'd be buying a PS3 in the winter). So far, I'd say probably one-third - if not more - of the BDs I own, I already had on DVD.

In fact, let me go through my BD collection now and tally up the duplicates....

Big Fish, Black Hawk Down, Blade Runner, Cars, Chicago, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Corpse Bride, Die Hard Trilogy, Donnie Brasco, Edward Scissorhands, Enemy of the State, Evil Dead II, The Fifth Element, Goodfellas, Hallowe'en, Harry Potter 1, 2 & 4, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Memento, Mission: Impossible, The Phantom of the Opera, Pirates: Curse of the Black Pearl, Reservoir Dogs, The Road Warrior, Sleepy Hollow, Speed, Superman I (and II, but it's an entirely different cut so I won't count it), Terminator, T2, Tomb Raider, Training Day...

That's 34 of the 72 I currently own...or 2 less than half. Most of the others were released in the past year, day & date with the DVD. So yeah...I'd say I'm on track to replace a good chunk of my collection. Maybe not all of it, but a good chunk of it.

I'd say most things released on dvd outside the mainstream will likely never see a hidef release just because the money to bring them up to par is not worth the return on most catalogue titles.

Very true. However, you'd be surprised when it becomes economical.

After all, would you have really expected folks to bother to remaster the b+w Superman TV series to release on in 2 [or was it 4?] episode discs for 2$ on dvd?

Deciding what to replace from your DVD collection with Blu-ray gets easier when said DVDs are stolen. /sigh

But that aside, I'm already looking to replace Blu-rays. Phantom of the Opera, for example, could be improved considerably.

I will probably eventually replace every title in my DVD collection that is available on BD. I am a collector and my A/V hobby is pretty much the only one I still allow myself nowadays. I have already replaced some titles that I never even watched my DVD copies of. Of course, for the last couple of years I have been mostly buying used DVDs with the exception of TV seasons, so the investment was not nearly as much on those titles. While I put priority on favorite titles and ones that have the most potential for improvement, I eventually want all I can get on BD if for no other reason, for the durability over DVD. Love that BD coating.

Oh yeah...I forgot Spider-man 1 & 2, the Blu-rays of which are on loan to a friend. That puts me at 36 of 72, or exacty half.

I have 14 re-buys, looking over at my list. 14 out of my 187 DVDs I have rebought on Blu...

...and looking over at my other DVD titles, there are 34 that are on Blu-Ray now, but only about 4-5 I would re-buy.

I've sold almost all of my regular dvds and purchased blu-rays in their stead.
Regular dvds, even upscaled, just don't take advantage of my Bravia lcd.

Just mostly my horror movies which is over 200. I am a huge horror fan. Thats why I only have 10 Blu-ray discs, which 6 I have replaced with dvds.
When more Horror movies come out on Blu-ray I am going to be broke.

I only own 12 DVDs to begin with, so probably all of them, except maybe one or two. One of them has already been replaced (HP 4, the only one I owned before getting into Blu), and the Lord of the Rings EEs will definitely get replaced (best movies ever, would gladly trade all other Blus I wown for these).

As for the rest, they're so few and I like them enough that I'll probably replace them eventually (the Patriot, the Matrix [only the first, I haven't bought 2/3, so I'll just pick up a Blu box set one day]).

Well luckily I was never really a DVD collector, I'd replace my 10 DVD boxset of the Matrix... and I have a copy of StarTrek Nemesis that I got for £3.00 so that'll go. Oh... and the same story with Gattaca.

Im slowly but surely replacing more than half of my standard DVD collection with Blu. Most of the ones Im replacing are my favorites or the ones I can show off my home theater with.
