Default Sony XBR5 broken styrofoam

Can anyone tell me if i should exchange my TV?... i opened the box for my new XBR5..i tell u this tv is beautiful but the styrofoam was basically cracked in half and separated once i removed the tv and picked it up....is this normal to see broken in half styrofoam in the TV box? im affraid the tv may have been dropped pretty badly but i didnt really see and dents in on the cardboard...im thinking it was a flat bottom type drop....

Try turning it on... :P Run it through the paces, etc. If you see any problems, return it. If not, I think you are good to go. That's what the stryofoam is there for, so your TV doesn't take the pain. :P

The box was damaged when I received my XBR3. I checked everything out and it was fine (thankfully) but things like this can get ugly.

Please take this bit of advise. If you had the TV shipped to you by an internet store -- Whether the box exterior is damaged or shows no signs of damage whatsoever take pictures!. You may need them for a claim.

The store will try to blame it on the shipper and the shipping company will blame it on the store. You'll be smack in the middle of a pissing contest with a damaged TV!

You paid a lot of money for that unit and you want it to be perfect. Accept nothing less.

Styrofoam snaps very easily. It could of happened when they were packing the box or at any point along the way. Just check your TV closely (you would do that anyway of course).

First, don't panic!

Large-screen TVs are wrapped with styrofoam for a reason -- it's meant to take the beating, and not your TV

I know this is important for you, but check out the TV to ensure that all is good. If it works, take a deep breath, and relax...

In the mean-time, do take photos and send/deliver them to the company you bought it from -- get a name of the person whom you bought/arrange-delivery-from (e.g. get a business card, note the date/time, etc.)

Odds are (I'd guess with a Sony, like at least 20:1 odds) that all is fine, and the warranty would cover anything amiss, but (just-in-case) don't miss the opportunity to amass some evidence that *might* help you in a bun fight in the future.

OK, so you have 1 month to verify that all is working, what is your problem then? Or are you just a "nervous nelly"?

Well, there are no sources yet that display in X.V. color yet, so you will never know until someday when something is released that does...

Yeah, the Sony M3000, 32" my Gfs dad bought for his kitchen had broken styrofoam as well. Sony needs to make tighter boxes, so that the tvs dont move so much.
