Return it for credit towards more Blu-rays or a new BD player

honestly. I would first look at them and say ''who are you? are you new?'' then i'd slap them. but I would keep it. I would RENT the few movies i'd like to see then put it away for many years. then sell it as a collectors item on ebay like I did with my parent's old super betamax player. I do like the pouring water in it idea though.

I'd keep it and put it next to my Laserdisc. Get some particularly unusual titles, maybe.

I'd use it as a nice bathroom stool. Or maybe to put drinks on to protect the wood table. I could also use it as the weapon of choice if anyone ever broke in to my apartment

I voted other. I'm using one as an upconverting player in my guest bedroom. When my five free movies come I'm going to trade them for Blu-Rays. devil-smiley-029.gif

This topic HD DVD for a christmas present came up with some of my co-workers as we were discussing gag gifts and what not for the white elephant gift exchange. Here were their thoughts:

I would rather get a fruitcake than a HD DVD player.

I would take the lid off, pull the motherboard out, pinch a loaf under the motherboard, put it back together and return it. When they asked what was wrong with it I would say that it smelled funny and ask to exchange it for a non-toshiba HD DVD player. Then I would just buy some BR movies.

^^this is what inspired the pour water inside option^^

ROFL, Exactly my thinking. I would then return it and buy BD movies and PS3 games.

I'd keep it, returning gifts is bad taste unless you already have what they gave you.

No, Brussels sprouts are bad taste.

Returning it and using the money to purchase more Blu-Ray discs is conducive to hurting HD DVD, helping Blu, making for a quicker end to a war, and end to FUDdery, and general happiness and merriment for all.

I'd certinaly not open it and return it. Why would I keep something that I do not need or want???? If that is bad taste, well so be it. But it happens all the time and if you work in retail, you know what I mean.

If you return an open box item and tell them it is broken, doesn't the retailer return the item to the manufacturer instead of restocking it. This serves the dual purpose of insolating the retailer from the losses of supporting HD DVD and hurting toshiba more.

most definitely returning it. i got no use of trash, and one HD DVD drive is enough. I hardly use it for HD DVD at all. More like DVD player to take off the load from my BD drive

No, bad taste is when one receives a particularly expensive gift and chucks it. I think if one is given permission to exchange it then that is fine, but if not, enjoy it and be merry. That will show you actually appreciate that the person went out of their way to get you something nice.

But of course, to each his own.
