Default Wal-Mart Not Carrying $199 HD DVD Player This Christmas

I found this article at gizmodo.com:

Wal-Mart's just made a statement claiming that they have no plans to carry the Venturer $199 HD DVD in stores this holiday season. This is probably the first time Wal-Mart's turned down a cheap, Chinese- made solution in preference to name brands like Toshiba, but they do still offer Venturer DVD players on walmart.com. We still believe that the sub-$200 Venturer will be the tipping point that gets HD DVD into many homes this Christmas, as long as they can deploy the stock in time for people to actually find them in stores.

So the real news here is that Wal-Mart is deciding not to carry something cheap that's made in China. That's gotta be a first.

However, Walmart does not make a big enough profit margin on a $200 HD DVD player so they are passing until their supplier drops the price. I'm guessing the Chinese thought $199 was a good price point and didn't agree to sell them cheap enough for Wal-Mart to sell for $150.

And yet Wal-Mart refuses to comment on their sandals that give everyone foot ebola.

The Chinese have to make up for the fact that all their toys are made of lead. Bad rep and bad business. Has nothing to do with Walmart though, I'm sure Toshiba had a hand in it.

The problem, according to a buyer friend of mine is that it looks shitty and cheap next to the HD players, and it looks too expensive next to the upscalers.

There's nowhere it fits in the product lines.

This news is a bit old. But you should read carefully, nowhere in their statement did they say they will NOT be carrying the player. Do I give a crap either way? No , but they said "they have no plans to carry the Venturer $199 HD DVD in stores this holiday season", looks like a back door to me. They didn't say they weren't going to carry it, and they only specified the Venturer. Attention to detail people.
There are no other supercheap HD DVD players in the works. This is it

Companies always make statements like that, they always leave themselves wiggle room
