Default The Abyss & True Lies will arrive this year!

from thedigitalbits.com

In other news, Remember how we first revealed last year that Fox is preparing to release James Cameron's The Abyss and True Lies on Blu-ray? More confirmation has arrived in the Norwegian magazine Release.no's latest interview with Vincent Marcias from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment (marketing), which indicates that both titles are expected to be released in 2011. By the way, the text also apparently indicates that the Star Wars Blu-rays will include "only the latest special edition" versions. Don't kill the messenger.

Will get the Abyss once it's $10, not interested in True Lies.

i'm pretty much in the same boat.

i watched The Abyss (whichever cut it was) about a year ago or so and i liked it, but don't think i'd be willing to spend over $12 on it. and as for True Lies, i gave it a 2.5/5 and unless i rent it and like it more the next time, or can get it for, let's say $5, that will be one i pass on as well.

although i'm sure The Abyss will look great and True Lies will sound great. dvd sounds like crap.

The Abyss is a great movie but not one I would rewatch too often. However True Lies is such a fun movie and truly deserves to been see on Blu-ray. I am a purist, but I would not hold it against Cameron if he were to fix the obvious stunt double in Schwarzenegger's scenes i.e. they did with Natalie Portman in Black Swan. Regardless the movie will be on my shelf, day 1.

I'm down for both. The Abyss is one of my favorite films and True Lies is always enjoyable, if a little slow to start.

Hopefully The Abyss is the extended cut. It really fleshes out some of the characters and plots.

I'd be interested in both. It's been a really long time since I've seen True Lies and I've never seen The Abyss.

I'm not as selective at the selling price, because I really enjoy The Abyss..... but True Lies would have to be CHEAP for me to upgrade my DVD of it.

Of course the Abyss will be the extended cut and, more likely, both cuts via seamless branching just like the DVD. There's not a chance in hell that Cameron would allow them to release just the theatrical cut

True Lies is a definite day one purchase, and The Abyss is too if it includes the extended version. I'm not sure if I'll buy it without the longer cut.

Agreed. As long as Cameron is involved, we'll get the extended cut. I hope we also get an HD version of "Under Pressure," the excellent making-of documentary on the DVD.

I would be shocked if both cuts are not included, especially if Cameron is involved in the making of these. Both are classics and both are Day 1 for me

I wouldn't mind the Abyss, but I've been waiting for True Lies forever. Not even a good anamorphic DVD of that. I'll pick up both of them, definitely.

From thedigitalbits last year 9/29/10-

__________________________

"Okay... the following should be considered VERY tentative. However, we've now heard it from multiple independent sources, including reliable industry insiders, so.... Sources are telling us that director James Cameron has been (or it about to begin) working on a new high-def transfer and master of The Abyss, presumably for eventual Blu-ray Disc release. As many of you know, The Abyss is a title that doesn't even have an anamorphic widescreen DVD release (neither does True Lies for that matter) so it's LONG overdue. We've been hearing this might soon happen from industry insiders for a couple of months now, but the most recent report on this comes from a longtime Bits reader (thank you, Jon H!) who actually had the chance to meet Cameron a few weeks ago. He asked specifically about the possibility of The Abyss coming to Blu-ray, and Cameron said that he was about to start work on a new transfer using the same process he did with the Aliens Blu-ray. Cameron then proceeded to say that he was really excited about how good Aliens looks on the format. So... fingers crossed... maybe we'll finally see those remaining Cameron titles on Blu-ray in the next 12 months or so...

As always, none of this should be considered official until the studios make their official yadda, yadda... You all know the drill by now. Stay tuned!"
