Default 40GB PS3 quieter than 60GB??

I have a 60Gb and recently bought a 40GB for the bedroom. The 40GB is far quieter. The 60GB is not loud at all, but the 40GB is dead silent... I mean like a standalone DVD player.

Anyone else done this comparison?

Default What about the 80GB

How does the 80GB compare to the 60 and 40 as far as heat output and noise output??

60 is the loudest, then the 80 then the 40.

I would also like to know how the 40 compares to the 80. I exchanged my 60 for an 80 due to noise and am happy with my 80, but if the 40 is even quieter than the 80, I will try to sell my 80.

Good so choosing the 40Gb for my bedroom mainly for BD playback was a good call. I play a few game son it too but I'll never play a PS2 game on it... my son plays a few on our other unit.

well just remember the 40 doesn't play ps2 games, the 80 does. but i don't think the difference between the 80 and 40 is big enough to choose one over the other

I've had the 60 GB for about 7 months and haven't noticed any noise. I can't imagine how quiet the 80 and 40 GB run then.

I have a 60gb that is fairly quiet. I picked up an 80gb last week and its much louder than my 60gb. I set both up in the same room and compared them, the 80gb has a higher pitched fan noise and the air flow is a lot weaker out of it.

My 60gb actually pushes quite a bit of air out the vents near the power plug, but the 80gb seems to vent most of toward the right side.

I am returning it today and looking for a newer machine - the 80gb has a build date of July 2007 and see if that helps.

If it doesn't, I will probably just return it one more time for the 40gb.

I've had the 60 and did notice the noise, but it wasn't bad at all. Then I got the 40 and it is really quiet thanks to the smaller GPU.

I've never noticed any noise from my (former) 60gig's. The only time I can hear anything is when I put my ear up (less than a inch) to the vents on the right side & its been going for 15+hrs & there is NO firkin noise at all I mean nothing! I can hear my baby's purrr , all my Ps3's sit Horizontal all the time , dust less, cool & well ventilated just like they like

We have all three and that is definitely the order for us..running Folding@Home all day doesn't even turn the fan on for the 40GB..the 60GB fluctuates with the medium and highest fan setting,,haven't tried Folding on the 80GB yet.

Having said that they are all pretty quiet playing BD's..

The 40GB uses the smaller Cell 65nm I believe. It also has less vents when compared to the 60 and 80, as it uses less per due to the smaller size proccessor.

I believe the 60gb uses around 240 watts, and the 40Gb uses around 140-180..

I live in Australia and have had both, now i have just the 40GB the model. It was not created under the smaller Cell 65nm process like the 40GB systems in the US, however the sound has never been a problem atall, It is actually hard to notice even without any sound being made from the television.

My 60GB has never been too loud but you can hear it. The 40 is totally silent.

I don't know where you are getting your info from but all 40gb have the 65nm cell. My 40gb is dead silent. My previous 60gb was hair dryer loud, needless to say I got rid of that sound trap as soon as I tried my new 40gb.

I have a 60 and a 40. The 60 is very quite and the 40 you can't even hear.

Though, one of my boys has a 360 and it sounds like a jet getting ready to take off!

My 40gb is super silent, you would think its off if not for the green light. I played CoD4 then only for about 90 mins did I hear the fan spinning, and it don't even have a proper ventilation where its sitting.

After an hour of use, my 60GB gets loud, to the point where I have to turn up the volume.
