Default Paramount is a crumbling studio at the moment.

I know many are talking about how horrid Sony has been doing for the years after the leak but they’re at least more financially stable compared to Paramount. For the past 5 years, Paramount has been dead last compared to the other major 6 studios, WB, Disney, Fox, Sony, and Universal. Hell, Lionsgate has been ahead of them in some years. This year, however, they’re doing much worse. How? Their entire domestic gross is less than Wonder Woman’s domestic gross. Ouch.

They started off with a film they knew would bomb, they even wrote it off. Afterwards, they’ve all been bombs or underperformed heavily. XXX made profit, thanks to the international market, but even their biggest franchise, Transformers, was a major underperformed and the lowest grossing of the franchise. Given how Star Trek Beyond and Turtles 2 performed last year, Paramount doesn’t have a guaranteed moneymaker at this point. Even Sony still has Spider-Man to lay back on. They have 3 films coming up, Daddy’s Home 2, Suburbicon, and Downizing, and 2 of them aren’t exactly gonna light the BO on fire and Daddy’s Home 2 could be a gamble, or not, maybe people do wanna see that.

Even for the awards prospects, it doesn’t look bright. mother! has been very divisive and the Oscars don’t gravitate to films like that. Suburbicon has been getting mixed responses and Downsizing could be its one shot, though the reviews, while really good, haven’t been exactly “universal”.

But the year isn’t over yet. Hell, this entire thread may be invalid if most of this is proven false. I just want a discussion on the current dilemma Paramount is facing.

Mission: Impossible, Cloverfield, and Spongebob don't count too? I think Daddy's Home 2 will preform well. Remember Paramount also co-finances a lot of their films with Chinese production studios, so I think they're fine. Every studio goes through this.

I think there is some panic though. Chinese financier have backed off while they search for new financier. All their tent poles have bombed or didn’t perform as hoped. Clover field is not a blockbuster hit (110 million worldwide) and they had to rent out JJ Abrams to Disney for the next two years. New president has his work cut out for him.

Well next year they have Mission Impossible 6, Bumblebee, and the new Cloverfield film. All will probably underperform though.

Transformers is even no longer a moneymaker. Poor Paramount.

Every studio has bad years. I think it was last year WB didn't do so well. And look at them this year. So it all depends on the slate of films.

Disney bought up the marvel and star wars properties precisely as there own films where bombing, and bombing hard to making mild profits and little more. Sure there animated films where doing okay, but there was a few years where financially the live action stuff was a huge drain on them and they spent nearly $10 billion for ip's to turn that around.

Alice started their remake craze.

Even if those other 3 flopped, Toy Story 3 and Alice both made $1B worldwide. I doubt it was a bad year for them.

2 out of 5 underperformers in 12 months isnt that bad. Only one big flop too. The other two, Baywatch and XXX probably have made money though.

WB was the second highest grossing studio domestically that year.

Yeah Paramount is a mess and no one talks about it. Transformers should've been a BIG wakeup call.

Mission Impossible will bring in good money. After part 4 TF 5 was going to do nothing but fall off.

Yep, Paramount is a bust.
Next year, we have Mission Impossible 6, God Particle, Annihilation and more. We'll see.
